WiW denim, utility and ballet flats

I wanted to add some edge to this dress, but are not sure if I succeded, especially thinking of the ballet flats.

Denim dress (Armani jeans)
Blue shrug
Belt (thrisfted)
Necklace (swap)
Utility jacked (from my mother, 1970's)
Terracotta scarf (for warmth)
Black patent leather ballet flats
Green bag

ETA: is this dress a sheath?

I think a chunkier shoe would be edgier but I always think that, especially vs. ballet flats. Love the unexpected belt contrast!

I love that vintage jacket! Would love to see the sleeves scrunched up a little!

You have a lot going on here and I'm not 100% sure it all plays together as nicely as you'd like. I think the necklace and the belt are fighting a little -- although they are both circles, the scale is so different that I'd pick one or the other, I think. And yes, maybe some chunkier shoes. I like photo 2 the best because the scarf picks up the terra cotta trim on your bag!

Yes, a chunkier shoe is what I usually would pick (and think of as more edgy). I think you are onto something when saying there is too much going on, Mary - and I'll definately take a note on that when coming from you

Scrunching sleeves - thanks for reminding me! Everything looks better when scrunched (but as I recall, it was a chilly day, only 12C/53F)

I love the dress, too! Personally I prefer a little less contrast with belts, but it works for you I think. Maybe you could pick up the brighter value/color in a scarf? I think #2 is very interesting, especially if you substitute the shoes for booties, perhaps.

I like the way it looks in #2 and #3 a lot - I think maybe the necklace takes away from the neckline on the dress belt I like the belt esp. witih that lighter coat on top. Shoes could be different, I agree with Una.

Cute dress and I like the combo with the utility belt. I'm not in love with the denim blue of the dress and the blue sweater, though - I'd prefer something either exactly the same color, or more contrasting. I like the tan with it.

I vote a loafer or oxford with this! I agree with Mary about the necklace/belt, but I think it also has to do with the styles of these things; they don't quite mesh, or it might work better to have both. I think the flats look OK with the outfit without all the outerwear, if a little sweet, but WITH the outerwear they are too dainty to balance. Also, I think that the cardigan cut is also a bit sweet, so coupling with the ballet flats the whole thing might just be coming off sweeter than what you're looking for.

Ingunn and texstyle - yes, a lighter scarf might be better. Maybe the light one to the left, below the dotted one (cream with red/orange dots and black trim)? could also layer around shoulders instead of around neck

Aida - love your insightful comments! I was actually also thinking loafer and will try that next time! The comment about the cardi and ballet falts makes so much sense - thanks for pointing it out!

I agree that a chunkier shoe would look better with this, especially with the tights. Other than that everything looks great! Yes, the dress is a sheath.
