WIW: Dark, Edgy & Moody Casual in grays and black

A couple of casual outfits from this past week that fall into the more dark/moody/edgy realm. Both were high on the comfort scale, which was key this past week.

Outfit #1 was one of those days where I just wanted to be extra comfortable so loose/slouchy clothing and sneakers were key. The AllSaints tiger tee was actually a dress that I had shortened to tunic length and then just opted to tuck in and blouse out. It's a sort of beige color with faded black printing with just a hint of silver to the silkscreen. I thought that picked up nicely on the pattern of the studded python print skater sneakers. For warmth I topped it with a kimono/bathrobe style cashmere sweater. This has a belt with it but I usually opt to wear it belt-less because it feels much too much like a bathrobe to me when I wrap and belt it.

Outfit #2 let the unusual vintage pewter stag beetle buckle take center stage. The rest of the outfit is low key in all dark grays and black. I opted for an over-exagerated cuff on the jeans because the cuff contrast color is so low I thought it worked well. Topped it with a basic cropped leather moto jacket, and since it was really chilly that day added a cropped black cashmere cardigan under it.

Not my favorite outfits by any stretch, but for days when I want extreme comfort and just am not in the mood to figure out or experiment with color these types of neutral gray/black outfits usually do the trick for me.

Black cashmere cardigan sweater: Vince (via ebay)
Cropped leather moto: Muubaa (via ebay)
Chain accented open-side leather boots: Zara
Bag: Neo (via Santa Monica Museum of Art)
Sterling and art glass square ring: vintage (via flea market)
Earrings: Sterling, apatite and black diamond snakes (via Max and Chloe)
Buckle: Vintage pewter beetle (via ebay) -worn on one of my many black leather belts

you do moody casuals in big style. The shirt in first outfit is so much fun and the nails look gorgeous in this shade of peachish/pink.

The tiger tee/tunic is fantastic and the sneakers are perfect with it. I have a sugar eye for exaggerated cuffs like you are wearing in the second outfit - maybe because I think they are so tricky to get right like you do. I would not wear or possibly even touch the beetle belt but it is a fascinating piece. Your jewelry collection must look like a museum exhibit.

FUN. Great moody neutrals looks. I adore the cobra earrings in #6. Does the head part loop underneath the ear lobe? That's such a great detail! Normally they just end flush so it's clear that the earring is a "two piece" thing. This looks more like a singular, flowing snake. Awesome. The second look is simple... until you look at the very unique details. And that's such a fab bag. Hmm another inspiring look with a buttoned up V-neck cardi worn underneath a moto topper to look like a vest (Denise wore one similarly recently, too). Love that look, must try.

Aida, Thanks for the kind compliment! the cobra earrings are actually two pieces. So the tail portion is actually attached to the back of the earring that slides on to the post of the front. It's cool when worn because the tails actually jiggle a bit when you move so it sort of looks like the snakes are moving.

Mia, Thanks! The bag is actually made entirely of neoprene (wetsuit material). It definitely qualifies as one of the most comfortable bags to carry because of the soft material when worn over the shoulder or across body -- and it has a bit of bounce/springiness when you walk with it.

Two more great looks LL! I love the long duster length cashmere knit over your big-cat tee and the way you brought another animal into the mix with your shoes. The buckle in your second outfit really is the star of the show, what a find! What a great 'moody' (with a big dose of edge) outfit too.
