We're having temps in the mid-90s today with heat index pushing into 100 or so, so I'm playing it cool in shades of blue, in shorts and a sleeveless top. I have the AC cranking in the studio but it will only just maintain 75 degrees in here. Good thing I don't like arctic AC!

The shorts are the new Angie-recommended ones from the Gap. I'm not a camo girl, but the print actually reminds me a bit of water. I love the fit and length.

Silk top from AG, gunmetal belt from Macy's, old Kenneth Cole Reaction pewter sandals (have been in and out of the purge pile so I thought I'd see if they should stay), and Sam Edelman snake print tote from TJMaxx. Hermes watch and Gaudi-inspired statement ring from Barcelona.

The bag seemed a little too pattern-mixy with the shorts at first, but I decided to go with it.

What do you think? Should the sandals stay? I've thought of updating to some new silver or gunmetal sandals.

The shorts look great, Janet! I agree that they look like a water print as much as camo. Fun! And wow, your eyes.

I actually like the sandals. Sure, they might not be the most current, but they strike a really good balance with the shorts. Just casual enough but not too casual. I am actually looking for a sandal that's very similar -- something that does not read "dressed up" when wearing shorts, but still has a bit of refinement to it.

Looking great, Janet. The watery camo pattern is right up your alley. And the bag makes the outfit quite 2014.

I love the sandals. Keep. FWIW, I do think though, that a flatter and more casual sandal is a better match for shorts this length and style. xo

Angie, I actually went back and forth between these and a flat pair of gunmetal slightly-gladiatorish sandals, and I definitely felt like either one worked, but I decided to wear these as a test to see if they were keepers. Thanks!

Angie, so far so good. I think I'll keep them. I get caught up in wanting the newest and coolest, and this wedge style is starting to look a little dated to me, but I like the woven detail, and they're comfortable, so I think these are worth keeping.

These shorts are winners, casual and interesting. You're right, they don't look too camo, the colors are great. I have sandals in a similar style and wear with impunity – so comfy! I like your belt and your toe nail polish too.

I'm also glad I dressed coolly. It's 99 degrees now. It is so warm that my studio won't go down below 80 degrees, even though I have the A/C running full-time. I'm on the 12th floor and have windows facing south and west, and even with blackout shades on two windows, I guess the heat just pounds in. Ah, historic buildings.

This toenail polish is a huge hit. I get compliments on it all the time. Hooray for fun colors!

This outfit is great on you. I like the cool blues and pewter tones on you, and the details add a lot of interest. I'd keep the sandals until a replacement comes along. Then you can take your time to find just the right thing.

Best with the sandals options. It is fun to have choices. I find it tough to navigate sandals when the decisions involves either too flat for comfort or too high for comfort. Because I have to have comfort first, especially if I am wearing any form of short.

This is the epitome of sophisticated casual dressing with edge!

For me the shorts don't have a strong military vibe because they are in blue tones- I can see why they remind you of water!!

I like way you have partnered this with the snake print tote- it is unexpected and adds edge but because the tones are similar it doesn't feel dissonant at all!!! (Was drooling over similar in Ferragomo- not literally, of course)

You have kept the lines clean and the accessories chic.

The tote grew on me as I looked at it with the ensemble. I am a reluctant at best pattern mixer. But I like the way the shapes in the reptile print echo the shapes in the camo print. Glad it works!

Pattern mixing is not for everyone- I think you have to be confident doing it to really wear it well, and you do!

Did you see Bridget combining three patterns and looking totally fab in Angie's blog post today? It's not a look I could carry but she does!

Absolutely gorgeous color on you Janet! Your eyes look as though they match the blue - and add a "wow" factor to your entire outfit! I'm not a camo print fan - but, I agree with you, if you just use your imagination, this print can be called a 'watercolor' print, rather than camo! Also - the sandals are fine - nothing wrong with them - although I think of you as someone who really rocks edgy shoes, and these don't seem to fall into that category - but still, perfectly fine!

Love you in this color, everything's beautifully styled here -- the way the bag and shoes match, the dressy vibe of the top -- very nice. And I replied on your other thread that I'd keep the sandals. It's the platform wedges I purged, not the wedges. I still wear my wedges all the time, so comfortable and love the bit of lift!

Wonderful outfit, the colors are so cool and serene they almost help you stay cool. Those are great shorts. Yesterday was really brutal, and today it does not seem much better? Sigh... Wish it cooled down a little.

Admire the tonal look and the length if the shorts. You look great despite the heat. I tend to "give up" trying to look good during the hot spells and go for comfort and staying cool first. You have inspired me to put forth more effort.
