WIW crossing from winter to mud season

Warning, photo heavy.
Maine winters can be harsh, but in my opinion mud season is the worst. Mud Season. Yes, here in Maine we have 5 seasons. As we try to jump from winter to spring we get stuck for a few weeks (pun intended) in mud season. Right now we have some nice warming temps, but those leave the ground with a mix of snow, ice and mud. Dressing is a challenge.
I am still wearing layers and an assortment of boots, but also getting to show some bare ankles. Turtlenecks are almost a thing of the past. 3/4 sleeves are starting to get play time, so progress is slowly being made.

1 navy and gold. Photobomber is Forest.
2, 3 burgundy, black and cream
4, 5 olive, cream and denim
6 burgundy and gray. The white boots were worn only while outdoors. Inside I wore flats w/o socks! Happiness!
7 navy. My least favorite outfit in this bunch
8, 9 black,rust, cream This one earned lots of compliments.
10, 11, 12. Cream, tan, black with an olive raincoat

I am getting tired of my winter clothing, so it feels good to be able to begin lightening up those pieces. Do my outfits look seasonally confused? Tired? Too dark? At least none of them have splashes of mud.

Mud season! Ha! That does sound challenging. I was born in Maine but left as a child so don't remember that. You are handling it with ease, it seems. The darks and lights look great together. I can see why 8 gets a lot of compliments; its fantastic. My other faves are 5 and 10. Love the olive coat with the lights in 12. Love all the mixed metals in your bracelet combos. Great scarves, too. Hooray for bare ankles!

I can so relate! In Maine we sure love when the temps start rising but it's such a double-edged sword knowing warmth means mud. Ugh.There are little muddy footprints throughout our house; it's impossible to keep on top of them. Do you clean your dog's feet when he comes in?

I really like how you are lightening your outfits as a nod to the warming weather. My favorites #2 (the shades in that scarf are perfect with your pants) and #10 (what are those fabulous boots???).

You always look like perfection, so I can only add that I love your jewelry (something I really struggle with, or rather accessories in general) and those western boots are FABULOUS!

Aww - Forest is gorgeous and so are you. All outfits and accessories are beautiful, but I LOVE #10 and those boots. Of course you are one brave lady wearing that outfit in mud season with children and dogs, I hope no muddy paws or fingers touched those perfect white jeans.

My March outfits are looking seasonally confused becuase mother nature is giving me seasonally confused messages....20F in the morning, 60F in the afternoon one day, the next day is 55F in the morning and 20F in the afternoon...what's a girl to do...layer! which you have proven to be a master of! all of these look great! and those boots in #10 are FAB! and look great with those jeans and sweater

ChristelJ, yes, hooray for bare ankles! They give me great joy right now!

Viva, our mud struggle is very real. Our dogs are huskies, so always go out on a leash. We can usually limit the exposure to mud and puddles. Right now, if their feet are muddy, we walk them through snow back to the house and dry them with their very own towel that hangs, appropriately, in the mud room.

Thank you Viva and Bennett. The cowboy boots are OLD! My sister handed them down to me about 20 years ago! She bought them when she lived in New Mexico in the late 80s!

Haha thanks Bijou. Yes, wearing white was a gamble, but I walked the dogs before I got dressed and I was leaving to present at conference (at the Maine Environmental Education Association—— super casual group), so no kids and I only had to brave wet parking lots. No mud or smudges!!

Kkards, your mud season temp swings are wilder than mine! Layer, layer. Layer! I hope we have a warm and windy March, so things can dry up!

I think your outfits look like a breathe of fresh air after heavy winter. First I’ve heard of mud season but I live in a snow free climate. We have had our share of rain here, but we’ve had several sunny days in a row.

We've got mud season in Syracuse, NY, too! You feel it acutely when you have a dog, as I can see you do, from the many times of day you have to clean off muddy paws. The dog is the main reason I haven't taken the plunge on white pants yet. Mud season means that they would soon turn into white pants with brown paw prints on them. Still, I love the warm-up, so I'll take it!

Lesley, I am sure you do get your share of mud season. I know paw prints can create quite the challenge. This time of year, I only put on my white pants when the dogs are settled. As soon as I get home, I change into jeans, before taking the dogs back out. I don’t wear the white pants that often and so far, I have been lucky.

You look beautiful in every outfit. I especially like that you include your bracelets. If I had to pick favorites, it would be 1 and 2. I love that gold and cream striped top in 1 and the bracelets in photo 3.

Thank you Joy. All the bangles I wear are happiness factors. The gold striped shirt is, too. My twin and I each bought one when I went shopping with her last spring. When I wear the shirt I always think of my sister and the fun we had.

Thank you Shevia. Haha, I know. Not everyone experiences mud season. We had strong winds yesterday and that helped. We still have quite a bit of snow that needs to melt so, it will be a while. The good news is that once the mud dries up, the trees begin to bud and the grass begins to green.

Love Forest Yep mud season is a thing here too-when the snow melts and the April showers! #2 is the one I like most, with your blush and burgundy, but I like all-and not seasonally confused to me.

We don’t have a lot of snow but we still have a prolonged mud season here too on account of the generous amount of rain we get.You look your usual polished self,no mud would dare sully you!Lovely outfits.

Love your photo bomber but otherwise just the whole lot. I remember being very confused as to why my Canadian BIL and SIL from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan needed a “mud room” (Neil’s brother married a Canadian and that’s where they live). In NZ we can get a bit of mud with our winters and springs which can be wet but you just need some gumboots ( aka Wellies) not a whole room! I think my SIL was a bit offended many years ago when my kids were about 9, 6 and 3 and wanted to “play Canadians” in our backyard- their idea. They put all their scarves and woolly hats on on a lovely winter or spring day and got me to take photos I think she felt they didn’t understand!
Of course not, right, at 9,6 and 3?

Jenni, I can just picture your young children playing “Canadians”. Hahaha, the things that inspire kids! I know, for some it must be difficult to understand homes having mudrooms. For some, a covered porch or an attached garage serves the purpose. For others, the entryway is the mud room. If our children had been younger when we built this house, our mudroom would have been through the back door and the laundry room right beside it. Our mudroom is just off our entry. It isn’t muddy, but holds all the boots, gear, towels, dog leashes, etc.

Paw prints on white jeans... the latest (seasonal) trend in animal prints!

I think you look fab in all of these. I will admit my least fav is the same as yours. I think the length of the top cuts you almost in half, which isn't the most flattering. Love the boots. I'm in awe (as always) of your jewellery.

And I can't imagine bare ankles... yet! Wow. Our snow shrunk considerable over the last few days, but we're not (at least I'm not) there yet. Can't wait, though!

My fave is 10. Are the boots western? Very cool.

We don’t have a mud season, but with two terriers, we have plenty of dirt in the house. We wipe off their feet when they come in, and they get a very small part of a treat. Mr Skunky takes advantage of this and spends his day going in and out.

Ahahaha Elizabeth P, yes, the latest in animal prints! Bare ankles inside only. I still put on socks and boots when I go outside.

Jane, thank you. Forest and his sister Alaska have a LOT of hair. Despite being huskies, they really are inside dogs. Totally pampered. They get frequent brushing. We brush them outside and watch the hair float away on the breeze. Hair outside, means it isn’t inside on the floor!
