WIW: Couldn't wait to show you!!!

I was really quite surprised and inspired by the positive response I got to the shorter skirt pic that I posted on my shopping thread... http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ome-photos

And then I saw Deborah's thread and I just loved her look:http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....-stripes-1 as well as Beverley's and instantly wished I had a stripy skirt so that I could emulate her look!

Yesterday afternoon I went back to the stores to return some of the not so great purchases from Sunday and found a stripy skirt that I loved instantly. I thought it may work with an asymmetric shark bite type top that I already had in my wardrobe.

As it turns out, the pointy edged top didn't work, at least not the way I tried it today, so I just grabbed this very simple long sleeved black top.

So here we have it - my sorta Deborah inspired, very unusual for me, shorter stripy skirt ensemble. Happiness factor - very high! Comfort factor - very high!

I think I have said before on one of my posts that I am missing a long pendant - I definitely wanted that here! And I still need to do some jacket shopping - these long sleeves are great for autumn, but I don't think it will cut it for winter.

Hil, I love this! It's really modern and clean look to my eye. The boots are amazing, what are they? I bet the skirt will be a work horse for you. I particularly like how the outfit will work for MOTG, lunch with friends, work etc. You look fab!

Deborah - the boots are some biker boots I bought a few years ago at one of our local shops. They're ancient and have been through the mill, fixed and refixed!

This is a great look for you, Hil. A little bit boho, a little bit modern, with a touch of edge. The proportions are terrific on you, and you could easily make the skirt a straight on classic with hose and pumps and a jacket, too.

A question for Angie (I hope she by some chance checks this again...!): what would you do to take this outfit from great to killer? I felt pretty great but I am curious about what I can do to kick things up a notch.

Not Angie, obviously. But here is what I have observed about those "killer" ratings.

First off, apart from the rare person who joins the forum with an already pretty well defined style, it takes most of us a while to earn a "killer."

And this is not necessarily because our outfits aren't good...but because it takes Angie a little while to get a handle on our style and how to help us move it forward. Not long...she is fast!! Especially considering she sees so many of us, and not even in person!!

Those killer ratings are partly a measure of the outfit itself, in other words, and partly a measure of Angie's sense of how to move us forward on our individual style journeys. And what that means is in turn unique to each person. The very timid dresser might earn a "killer" for trying something outside her comfort zone. The very daring dresser might earn a "killer" for going trying the next hot thing (or for inventing it) OR for trying a slightly more classic, conservative approach.

Angie has preferences, just as much as the next person. She tends to like clean lines, modern, fairly minimalist looks, and because her business is style, she appreciates looks that are especially "of the moment" ....but she also appreciates lots of other kinds of looks on the right woman. It's in getting to know us a bit through the forum that she gains a sense of what kind of women we are, and which directions to nudge us.
