WIW: coronapocalypse, day 18

Really, what I wore was no different from any other work outfit for the last year and a half. Black pants, black shoes, black base layer... (pics 1&2)
But after 18 days of the coronapocalypse wreaking havoc on us grocery store employees, I have given up trying to hide the dark circles and bags under my eyes (pic 3) and I have instead embraced them. I've been reaching for steadily darker eyeshadows, and actually using a grey eyeshadow crayon under my lower lashes (4&5) to add darkness because it matches my grim mood of late. Lastly, me in my crappy red polyester work shirt and my surgical mask, pic 6.

I didn't know it when I got dressed, but today was my last day of work for the indefinite future. The county where I live had been holding steady at 1 confirmed case of covid-19 for a week and a half or so. Today, we had a 2nd confirmed case in the morning paper headlines, and by the time I left work we were up to 3 confirmed cases. With my COPD, that was my line in the sand; my doctor appointment Tuesday just went from discussing precautions to filing for a leave of absence under FMLA. It was a hard decision, because I can think of much better ways to use my small savings and because I truly like the people I work with. And now I also have a speeding ticket to pay off, since I got pulled over doing 20mph over the limit on my way home from a brief visit with Miss Mollie, my amazing furbaby (pic 7)

For the moment, I'm relieved to know I don't have to get up and go to work tomorrow, but give me a few days and I will be bored to tears. At least I'll finally have time to have Miss Mollie for a couple of days, and we will have big adventures at the park and she will get to eat lots of pupperoni and we will play with toys and we will take naps. Because I am exhausted, and naps with furbabies are good.

Thank you for being one of the few bright spots in my life of late. It has been a brutal 18 days in the "essential business" world, and being able to come here and read about style or just see the genuine caring & support has been a huge help.

Oh wow, that is rough. But at least you will have time to rest now and Miss Mollie will be delighted. Health is the most important thing right now. I mean it is always, but it is certainly being highlighted lately.

I’m so sorry you had to go on leave. Spending time with Mollie will make you feel better. I like your apocalyptic eye makeup, especially with your beautiful hair color.

Sorry to hear you are on leave - however you need time to recover from the craziest time at work and get some fun time with Mollie.

You look beautiful and the smokey eye make up suits you. Terrible to have had to work so hard and definitely anyone with COPD needs to take extra precautions at the moment, as hard as it may be, staying home is the right strategy. Miss Molly is so cute. She will love having you at home.

Your apocalyptic eyes are perfect- dramatic with your column of black, even if you had to add the red shirt. I’m grateful you had a mask for as long as you were working. Staying home is the right choice though- so glad your doctor agreed. I hope you can get some rest.

Sorry to hear, but am happy you have a lovely fur baby to spend time with! We so miss our doggie (passed in 2017) but sadly we don't have yet exactly the right circumstances to adopt another one...

Cindy, if you get bored, maybe you can write an article about the times and your work experience to submit to a newspaper or magazine (there must be one for grocery store personnel). You are an excellent writer and this is the topic of the day.
Take good care of yourself and rest up.

Shevia, I just got a text from ex-DH saying I could keep Miss Mollie for the whole week I'm planning big adventures outdoors, as we have plenty of large parks that had plenty of space for social distancing even BEFORE the Coronapocalypse happened

Slim Cat, one would think that this would be the time when my dystopian side would really be appropriate, and I am currently feeling drawn towards softer things like white. Must be the need for hope and light during these trying times

Rachylou, I'm about to get to play with contrasting the lighter brighter clothes in my closet with all the darkness in my eye makeup. And purple hair, as Jade says she will meet me at her salon to give me lavender hair

Notsaf, part of me wondered if the dark eye makeup was too depressing, but I just couldn't bring myself to lighten it up

Bijou, I am looking forward to finding ways to entertain the always energetic Miss Mollie. It should keep me occupied for the week instead of thinking too hard on not working <3

Kathie, I actually just got my hands on the masks Friday night. Ex-DH and his best friend were running out of toilet paper, and I had access to some. I traded toilet paper for a box of masks, a bottle of 70% rubbing alcohol, and a bottle of aloe vera gel

Anne, I slept till almost 8 this morning, and would probably have slept longer if I hadn't received a call from my doctor's office informing me that my appointment would be online (which saved me a 40 minute drive in the morning)

Joy, even if I don't get published, I think writing such a piece would be therapeutic for me. Work was a nightmare for the last 2.5 or so weeks

Thank you for all of your hard work! Taking care of your health is a priority and recovering from all the frenzied hours and days is important. Then it will be resting, even if you are bored. A rested body is better able to resist illness. So rest and take care of you!

I do hope you’ll write about this experience! You have to somehow work in the part about trading TP for masks and rubbing alcohol- part of any good apocalyptic story. So glad you’ll have Mollie for a bit longer.
