WIW: consolation prize - YouLookFab Forum

Quick story: a friend and I went thrifting about a month ago and she found a great DVF cotton safari dress for 35$ that I had to talk her into buying (it didn't fit me, or I wouldn't have tried very hard).

I really liked the dress, so I took to eBay to find a similar dress and bought this one. I'm not completely thrilled with it, as it is made of a shinier fabric than expected and the pockets are just design details, not functional. Alas, it being eBay, it is not returnable and so I am trying to make it work. I think it photographs well, which is improving my opinion of it.

I think the dress is really cute! I love your military topper, but the sleeves look too long, would they be easy to shorten?

I really like the dress alone in photo 1, but it needs... something more. Some oomph. Can you wear a belt over that string tie at the waist, or would that look strange?

i like the dress. i think i would like to see it with either higher boots, booties or flats. to my eye the lenght of the dress is fighting the height of the boots.

Ceit-- I know what you mean about the sleeves. They are like 1 inch too long. There is some detailing on the sleeve that would have to be moved, so ordinarily I'd just deal. But this jacket is gearing up to be a real workhorse for me (its been in 50% of my outfits in the last month), so it might be worth it.

LBD-- I've tried the dress with a belt before, but its really awkward. The strings hit me about 2 inches below my natural waist and float up there when I sit. The obvious places to belt are no gos. Maybe a long necklace?

kkards-- thanks for the feedback. I have a pair of mid calf boots I've paired this dress with before (see photo). I'm not really a flats girl, but I have a pair of yellow cons that might work. I like this idea, so thank you! Do these other boots work better?

I like the dress and it looks good on you in these photos. I'm not sure about the boots - I have problems myself with styling mid-calf boots. It would look good with sandals once the weather warms up.

I like the dress, I like the jacket(a little tweak in the sleeves) and the bag. Great outfit!

I like the higher boots and I'd love to see it with the yellow cons, I think that would give it a spring feel
