I wore this for school run this morning (just a quick drop off). Both the skirt and top are a recent purchase. I absolutely love this skirt and the color. BUT there is one problem. It kept riding up when I walked I had to constantly pull it down, which was annoying. Any tips on solving this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking.

P.S Does the outfit look tacky? This is the first time I am road testing a skirt this short (without a hose). I did not get any weird looks during the short period I was out (Mums in DS's school come in shorts so I just blended!). But I better be sure! Honest opinions please

Length is fine for the warm weather and I love the colour combination. Lovely.

Lovely! It might ride up because it is cut quite narrow. I often have this problem with pencil skirts. There is a sweet spot of loose enough to kind of float but tight enough to not twist around when you walk.

Beautiful colour combo and it looks great! How frustrating about the twisting up. I honestly don't have the answer. I know my Vince Camuto midi tube skirts do NOT do this -- whether it's because of the fabric or cut or the added length, I don't know. Is this one loose in the waistband? That can cause twisting with skirts sometimes.

First off, I love the colour combo and you have great legs so show them off a little. I agree with Ceit about the skirt. It may be cut a little narrow around your thighs and it then twist as you walk. There probably is a sweet spot of just right

ETA, just saw Suz's comment re tube skirts, I guess as they have more stretch in them it helps, where as yours is a woven fabric.

Nice warm weather look... not tacky at all. The color combo is lovely. I have the same problem with a lot of my pencil skirts, esp. those that are unlined. With some of them I wear a half slip, Spanx or bike shorts. It helps with the riding up issue but is probably not practical in really warm weather. Too hot!

Thank you ladies! That was a relief! Phew! And that color combo is not my brainchild! I had pinned it in my pinterest board a few months back! I have attached the original inspiration pic.

Ceit, Suz and Diane - The skirt says 95% polyester and 5% elastane. I am not sure if that is of any help! I do not have this problem with my other midi tube skirts. So length could be an issue. Also I bought a size larger than my regular size because my size was a bit too bodycon. The waist just sits ok (not snug not loose), I can tuck in tops if required. But I do wear it lower than my regular waist because otherwise the skirt would be too short

El Cee - I do have cotton *bike* shorts. I think I would try with that and check. Thanks for the tip! I hope the skirt behaves after that else it might retire to being a cold weather skirt with layers underneath.

It is still 90 F here. But the weather seems to be finally cooling down. Can't wait to wear some boots, tights and toppers!

Hmm...I was going to suggest sizing up on the skirt since it seems to be pulling and puckering in the photo but you say you already did size up so I don't have an answer for the riding up.

Tacky? No way, beautiful colors. You might try wearing the skirt lower on your hip for the riding up problem.

Love the color. Is the skirt lined? Sometimes a slip will help a skirt to lay down more smoothly. If you don't have a slip and don't want to spend a lot they can usually be found at thrift stores for very little.

@Cindy - The skirt does look snug in the pic, but its pretty loose in fact! Although the material is a bit sticky. I think a slip should do the trick.

@Vickie - The skirt is unlined. So I am going to try the skirt with the cycling shorts and check if it helps. Thank you for the advice!

@Neel: go lower on the hips, that usually solves the problem. But, in case it persists, check out Extra Petite's tips. She made a whole post about "rotating pencil skirts" and came up with three different solutions. I guess the rubber band is the safest and the sure bet for riding up too...

Thanks jurocha for that link. It sure is helpful for my *other* pencil skirt which keeps rotating .... I love the idea of a waistband!

But the problem with this one is that it keeps going *upwards* when I walk! So the skirt looks shorter than it actually is.

I agree with what has been said previously - I think the skirt is probably a fraction too tight, which is causing it to ride up. I tend to buy my skirts looser so that they hang off my hips, rather than sit tight on my waist. I find that more comfortable, and find they stay put better.

I should add - it doesn't look too tight, but if it's riding up, I'd say that's the issue!

Since the skirt is a knit, you may be able to hand wash it and block it wider.
