WIW: chocolate and raspberries

Okay, it's more like chocolate and wine, but this color combination reminds me of chocolate and raspberries, flavors I find very yummy together. I'm really happy in this outfit, as I love the feel of every piece, and I like the look of all of them together. This is probably about as arty as I like to go in one outfit. Does it work for you?

The outfit (worn to work): wine silk high-low hem blouse in (Eileen Fisher); brown wool cropped, tapered slouchy pants (made by me); mocha and wine knit shoulder cozy (handknit, from a local boutique); brown metallic booties (Donald J. Pliner); taupe trench (Calvin Klein); taupe shoulder bag (Aunts & Uncles).

Oh, and I turned up the cuffs on the sleeves after the photos. They're more comfortable that way, when I'm not layering a sweater over them.

Love the color combination and you've made me hungry for raspberries and chocolate! I wish the pics were a little lighter so I could see the colors better, but I know how hard it is this time of year to get enough light!

Really like the shoulder cozy! I don't think I've seen anything in quite that shape before, and it goes perfectly over that top.

What a gorgeous blouse; the color and drape look wonderful on you, as do your slouchy pants. The shoulder cozy adds just the right amount of splash to the outfit.

I might change my outfit plan for the day to brown and burgundy...er, chocolate and raspberries!

Love this color combo --- it seems both fashion forward and cozy. Did you crop these pants further, or do they just look that way with different footwear? I like the length here, as long as your ankles don't get too cold!

The texture of the shrug against the silk is wonderful. I know what you mean by "too arty," (head to toe Marcy Tilton) but this has enough tailoring and structure to avoid that pitfall entirely and is quite striking.

Beth Ann, I didn't crop the pants further; these booties are cut lower, and I'm also wearing knee high stockings rather than dark trouser socks as before. I confess my ankles were cold when I went out in the morning, and I thought, "uh oh. . . ." But they were fine during the day inside, at work.

One of the great things I love about this site is seeing the color combinations that people come up with. I confess that I am challenged in that area, but I am getting lots of new ideas here such as your beautiful chocolate and raspberries -- a combo that I would not have thought of but you wear so well. I have also been searching my brain and closet for a lilac, taupe and white combo but so far to no avail.

Dee, I'm with you. I love seeing the different color combinations people come up with. And I didn't have the lilac, white, and toffee combo, either--mainly because of toffee. I could probably come up with a combo using taupe, though.

I LOVE this arty look - so so fab! Do I see it right that your shoulder cozy is basically a very simple, straight piece (like a wide tube) that is gathered at one spot?

Yummm! Your title made me hungry. My two favorite foods -chocolate and raspberries. Love the colors together too.

Chouette, yes, you're right. The drawstring across at one point allows you to shape it a little bit. It looks like a really short tube skirt, for someone with hardly any difference between waist and hips, if that helps.

I think this is absolutely fantastic, Sharan. Arty, beautiful drape, texture-rich and a beautiful colour combo that reads so luxe and elegant. I love how you've tied and draped the shoulder cozy, and those earrings are perfect with this look too.

The color combination is fantastic.
Really like the drapey blouse. Somehow I'm wanting to see less sleeve length with the cozy. I admit that item is giving me trouble--I want to see things look more relaxed, more easy, and not too straight-jacketed at the shoulders. That's why I wondered if you could push up sleeves or something, though that would be "colder" for me, I know. Partly I am not very artistic, I know.

The slouchy drape of the pants is very easy-looking. For me, I need more taper but can't do much whole-leg taper due to my shape. Sometimes tapering or pegging just at the hem can help, but I've had big probs with pantleg grabbing my calves, and you mentioned that, too. I don't hear other fabbers complaining but it has turned out to be a rate-limited step for me. I sit down, I get up and my pants stay up. No bueno for professional look.

Sooo that is one reason I can't have my pants as short, and also have the taper; I have to have a hem width that works for where it falls when standing, and still not too narrow for the art of my leg it will "ride up" on when I sit down.
That is the long way of asking, have you considered keeping the pants roomy in the thigh and tapering more at the hem?

unfrumped, I, too, wondered whether the pants should be tapered more. Frankly I'm done with these (making them, that is, not wearing them) and wouldn't bother taking out the hems to redo them. But perhaps on another pair. With this length, though, I think I'm at that sweet spot where they will just fall back down when I stand up. Narrower, and I would have to shake heartily or pull them down. (If you have this trouble with pants grabbing calves, I'm sure you know the leg shake! ha ha!) Oh, and I agree on the sleeves--I did turn up the cuffs after I took the photos. But I didn't scrunch them; too cold for that.

Yes, Firecracker, I am so done with the tap dancing, stomping, surreptitious rubbing one leg with another, and the leg shake! Is there something I'm missing, because other people were amazed that I had this problem. It's even a problem with rolled jeans at a certain length.
