WIW: Channelling Amelia, and visiting Orphans

#1 - #2:
Finally, an Amelia Earhart inspired outfit: Wide, straight-legged pants, a button-down (tucked in) with a scarf and a sorta-bomber jacket. In my version, the pants are olive, the shirt is chambray, and the jacket isn't really a bomber jacket, but I like it anyway. The scarf is bright-multicolored (with a heavy olive dominance), and oxfords for her menswear shoes. The happiness factor of this outfit was high, but I think it could be improved with a silk button-down shirt instead. What else do you see that should be improved?

#3: I tried on several closet orphans this morning trying to figure out what to wear. I landed on this sweater with built-in cuffs and collar. It annoys me because it seems so un-versatile with the collar and cuffs already there. But I love the rust-color. What are it's styling options? It is worth keeping?

Would un-tucked be better on #1-2 also? (Less true to the inspiration, but MaryK, you are teaching me that inspiration is really all about making the look your own. I certainly don't have that down.)

Untucked would be good -- or have you tried a semi-tuck?

I'll try them both - I think this shirt might be a bit billowy for untucked, but I know the semi-tuck works well for me. Thanks!

Oh, and thank you for pointing out what's wrong - please keep it up! I don't notice things like that on my own (especially proportion is way over my head right now), and I want to learn! I was happy in this outfit because of the inspiration, not because I think it worked especially well (I doubt I'd know if it did or didn't, to be honest - that's why I'm eager to learn from you all)

I actually think your Amelia outfit works quite well --- I agree with MaryK to try the scart with a slightly different tie. I'm another vote for ripping out the cuff/collar with the sweater for more versatility if you're not loving it as is.

I think you might be a natural at semi-tuck and Angie's faux tuck.

I think your Amelia inspired outfit is quite cool. I like the idea of the silk shirt with it or maybe a different scarf with the chambray shirt. I think it is great that you are using a personna to emulate, that will give you so much inspiration. Look forward to more of your looks!

I like your Amelia inspired outfit, tuck and all! I can't quite tell how you've tied the scarf, but I think tying it like a men's tie would be really sweet with that outfit; it would also streamline the scarf a bit. The chambray works nicely to my eye, but a silk blouse would also look great; would give the look a more feminine and soft vibe, which could be great balanced against all the more mannish elements. For the second sweater, if you like the faux collar and cuffs then it's fine to wear the sweater just like that! Unless you're finding yourself wishing to layer the sweater over other tops often, in which case you could probably snip those out easily enough. The rust color looks great on you! Off the top of my head I quite like the idea of pairing it with blue denim and white for you

Personally I love both of these as is, particulary the first one, and especially with the jacket!

Oh, but I do agree w Aida - try a men's tie knot with the scarf so the ends "point" down. It will give it a more refined look.

If you take the collar and cuffs off the rust sweater, I can even see it with the elements in your Amelia look - which I think is really nice on you.

I just tied the scarf in a half-hitch knot (I think that's what it's called? Like the first step to tying a shoe). So I agree, there's probably a lot of better knots out there! I liked the ends hanging down, because I don't especially like the buttons on the shirt, and I wanted to hide them
