It is gloomy out here in MN.

We went from warm weather to gloomy, grey too soon: I find myself not wanting to dress for the weather. I finally removed my winter coats and am trying to get past my wardrobe inertia.

I run warm all the time and the heat in the house actually makes me sweat! and have I mentioned how much I hate socks: eve the 100% cotton ones I wear. Sigh.

What is it like in your part of the world? how are you dealing with season change?

You will see my trademark smile trying to cope with the blues. A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do to look enlivened right?

outfit one: black moto winter jacket (gap), black kut from the kloth ponte pants, blondo riding boots, old navy animal print shirt, faux leather/mixed media vest ( halogen). gold and aquamarine-ish jewelry. Black toywatch- watch.

outfit two: slouchy khaki-olive pants ( brand?), ann taylor long cami half tucked, helmut light grey bomber, tildon black pointy booties. mixed metals necklace and silver hoops.

Thanks Pil for asking. I am ok just that my SAD seasonal affective disorder (winter blues) are worse:October and March seem to be hardest for me.
I think maybe I need to wear some of my brights with fall/winter neutrals as a visual pick me up.

And you look so wonderful in your brights! You have probably looked into the lighting for SAD? I saw something a while back about an alarm clock that incorporates light therapy.

I think you look great in everything. I dread setting the clocks back (this weekend, UGH!) It's still quite sunny and warm in the southeast, but I think I am going to cope by adding some colorful accessories to the mix once the days get shorter.

You look lovely. I second Pil, though, add some brights!! They just make you happier this time of year. Maybe treat yourself to a pink coat like Angie's! (totally enabling here)!

DH also suffers from SAD. He has it really, really badly. The only thing that worked for him was mega doses of vitamin D and walking outside the hospital at lunch. Even just for 5 minutes. And he doesn't wear ANY kind of sunscreen in the winter.

Thanks gals. I have the lights at home and at work. I just used them as I was typing and perusing the forum-already feeling better.

I like the idea of a blush/pink coat but wonder about my complexion and its versatility. Maybe blush is a new neutral? hmmmmm.

Sona I think we are SAD soul sisters. I am contemplating ending a 7 year relationship that was intended to be lifetime (we've talked about when to marry) and realized that I almost ended it two years ago almost to the day. It makes me wonder if it is the season affecting my mood and making me more easily annoyed by the one negative in our relationship. Hmmm

Onto wardrobe. You look lovely. I particularly like the sleekness and lines in outfit 1. I envy you those gorgeous legs.

Sona, your "coping" smile - and outfits - are lovely as ever! I'm sorry you are dealing with SAD. I have a friend who is very much affected by it. I, on the other hand, am looking forward to "falling back", and eagerly anticipating winter. I kind of thrive on early evening darkness and gloomy late fall/winter days. Wondering if I may be part vampire...

We are grey and cold in Seattle, but have had a month of gorgeous sunny Autumn weather. We also have the best foliage, and the sunlight glistening on it is magical.

Your style has not lacked in fabness despite your moods. Loving #1 and #3 in particular. Add in the colour to brighten your mood. That's why I have many bright wool coats. xo

It is 70 degrees and I am freezing. I had to turn the heater on yesterday because it was 62 in the house. You look very good for your gloomy forecast. Start feeling better soon!!!

Do you ski or snowshoe? Being active helps me in the winter.

I love 1. I think adding your brights in will help, and also the vitamin D and your lights and trying to keep active.

Sona, so sorry about the SAD. You look beautiful particularly in the blue grey...I guess it reflects your mood, but lighter. Like the sky at dawn.

But I am with Shannon. Grab some colour. It helps you! (Well, it helps me, anyway..)

We have had a glorious lovely fall, but I still find the change of seasons difficult when the light is less. It's all about the light, for me. Like you, I find October quite difficult, especially now that we chang the clocks so late. And March is also hard.

The weather here has been mostly warm; I've only needed a wool coat once. But that will change in a few days. I bought new boots in preparation for the cold and snow. I bought pretty knitwear. And looking forward to my stepson's wedding in our home in December.

Hugs to you, Sona! I live in MN too and also have some SAD. I have definitely felt a drop in my mood in the last week or two also. Interestingly, as soon as the gloom set in, I found myself wanting some bold patterns in my wardrobe. I recently ordered a few larger-patterned tops. Do you think that would help you?

I always go for a short walk after lunch, to try to get some exposure to what little sunlight there is. It helps some.

I really, really loved your outfit with the vest. That was my favorite.

I know what you are going through. Big hugs! You look beautiful. I really like the vest outfit. As others have said, wear lots of rich colors during the gloomy months...and make sure your living space is bright and cheerful too.

This time of year with the days getting shorter can be tough, can't it?
I have a daughter in Minneapolis, and I know the winters there sometimes get her down. Another daughter, in Seattle, got herself a "Happy Light" and I guess it has helped her some, too.

I find that nothing helps me near as much as getting outside for a walk in the natural light. Even when it's freezing cold and gray outside just getting that little bit of natural light is therapeutic.

In spite of it all, you look fabulous! In your first picture, I can't get past your gorgeous metallic bag- I love it! I'm also crazy about that mixed media vest, and I'm kicking myself for not at least trying it during NAS.

And of course you know I love that HL bomber! (waving to my jacket twin!)

You know, maybe you and DH need to plan a little mid-winter getaway to somewhere sunny and warm! That would be something to look forward to!

I'm glad you have a team of lights to help you - I just blast myself with 30 minutes in the morning when getting ready and it's made a HUGE difference.

I live in an extremely sunny place, but am badly affected when the days get shorter and have to make sure I go for an outdoor walk every day and work next to a window. Anyway, you look fantastic - I especially love the long vest and the HL bomber is stunning. I love that whole outfit right down to the pointy toed boots!

I'm with Shevia: Love the vest and the bomber -- and the smile is the best!

I also find that exercise, particularly a walk in nature, even when it's chilly, can improve my mood. Of course, I have a 55 lb. black fur, I mean dog, that I have to take out and about!

You look great Sona! Love number 3! I agree that a few pops of colour might help you brighten up your mood. I feel sick in all neutrals and I think I can understand how one might feel dressing up like that in an already gloomy weather!

A pop of colorful necklace in the last outfit might help too!

Sona, I'm sorry that you are dealing with this. My DBIL also gets down when grey cold days arrive. He now has two little dogs that expect at least 2 walks a day and he is better for those walks too. He also sits out on a south-facing porch when there is any sun.
Right now the world outside my windows is brilliant. The lawn is a sunny golden color from the maple tree dumping many leaves today. The front glows from light filtered through the pinkish crimson of the dogwood leaves. Temperatures are comfortable in the 60's. It is rainy but that is making everything shine. No freeze yet so flowers are still blooming.

Awww, keep the faith, honey. I always go back on wellbutrin when those seasonal blues kick in.
