WIW: Catching up - YouLookFab Forum

I'm another one who's had life get in the way of a lot of forum participation. In a good way though!

Decided I'd do a massive getting caught up post, as I do appreciate feedback on my outfits. Esp YLF feedback - there are always a few great nuggets of advice.

1. Velvet Sloans, Ollies and last years Christmas sweater - worn for my belated birthday party.
2. I think you've seen this one before - one of my only successful layering attempts.
3-4 Keeping it real. Freaking cold here, so cashmere and a scarf is perfect. And #4 is how the world usually sees me - although I often have a pop of colour in my scarf.
5. With my new Danier bag. LOVE it!
6. Another repeat.
7. The inspiration for this came from somewhere, but can't remember where!!
8. Picked up this scarf for $5 at a clearance, and love the colours... perfect motivation to get this tunic out which hasn't seen daylight yet this year.
9. Copycat outfit from another group I'm in on fb.
10. Road trip and field trip. Worn with warm winter boots.
11. Worn to a fundraiser wine tasting on Feb 23, so thought it was a great opportunity to wear my red sparkly sweater.
12. Another item that hasn't been worn yet this year, this CM cardigan. I love the pattern on this, and it's super cozy, but once again I'm not a fan of this length of sweater on me. It really stands out in this set of outfits, as most other things are longer, don't you think? I think I need to keep this to navy or black trousers, or a dress.

I realize this is a bit of an overload, but as always, any comments or feedback you'd care to offer is appreciated!

You have some lovely outfits here, but I agree that the longer length sweaters are more flattering on you. I love the layering and colour in 2, the column of colour and your beautiful new bag in 5, and your artful way with scarves in 5 and 8.
My allround favourites are 1, 2,4, 5, 6, 8 and 11.

OMG, love the new bag, and makes one of my favorite outfits, here! 1, 2, 6, 7, 11, 12 are all some super interesting, trendy, gorgeous outfits! K2K for those leather cullotes, the hair, and the red lipstic. Keeping it real is also spot on!:-)

Love #1--so pretty with your hair. I love you in the blues on #5 and the bag, as well as that scarf in #8--it really makes the outfit for me. You are right, the longer top is so flattering on you, but you look good in the shorter tops as well.

I love your (what I assume are) work looks - like 5,6,7 and really like the sparkly red sweater outfit too. Nice Danier bag !

My favourites are #5 and #9 because black with cobalt (or ink?), with or without white, is such a flattering colour palette on you; #6 because that is a great asymmetrical tunic; and #11, because you just look amazing in that sparkly red top.

Agreed that the shorter top in #12 is slightly less successful and I'm sure you're right that it would look better with navy or black trousers so the shortness would be less obvious, or with a dress. And maybe it would work with these lighter jeans if it was worn open over a longer, loose-fitting navy shell.

And I meant to add that your lovely hair is your crowning glory

You are really hitting your stride, Elizabeth! I love seeing big groups of your WIWs. My favs are 5 & 6, and also love the culottes. I see what you mean about the length of the CM cardi. Hmm. You do soooo well with the longer lengths. I'd play around with this one like you're thinking. Stay warm!!

Jackie... -27 with the windchill here today. Yesterday we had snow, then rain, then flash freeze... the outside world is white concrete. NOT normal for Hfx! and it sucks

It's plus 10 or so and sunny here on the left coast. Can't really complain although the skiing sucks!

My goodness Elizabeth you have so been hitting it out of the ball park! You know, I think cutting you hair and your natural colour has been a major game changer for you. I was perusing your outfits the other day and from your early posts to now there is so much more definition, refinement and cohesion to your looks. Not that there was anything wrong with your earlier outfits, but it's like you have now discovered your true self. I hope that all came out right lol.

#6 is so fab I can barely contain myself.

Deborah, what a kind thing to say! Thank you so much! I can't tell you how much it means to have someone (esp one who has such a defined style) say that they see cohesion in my looks. I still see things as a bit all over the place, so I'm glad that that is perhaps settling down a bit.

I think my hair has helped me a lot as well. I wish I'd known, maybe I'd have had the courage to do it earlier! But I do feel so much more like "me" now. I'm not sure I've really got my style figured out totally yet, but I defiinitely feel closer, and have a better idea where I'm going. And the hair has certainly been a part of that. Angie's advice to take care of hair early on in the style journey is bang on... but sometimes you don't know what is needed in that department until you're on your way, kwim?

I love the clean lines of all the outfits. I also love your choice of vivid clear colors. My favorite is #5 but a close second is #2. I know it's a casual outfit but I love the texture of the check with the vivid teal.

#1 is fantastic! I also think the outfits are great in #5,6 and 9. Those are your colors! And yes the hair is the linchpin!

A great collection of looks here. Outfits 2 and 7 are my favorite because I prefer these strong bold colors on you best.

The gingham and teal is a standout. The ink-outs also incredibly fab. And the red-and-blacks... haha, is that everything?

Wow -- a treat to see your polished casual, work-friendly outfits! I love #6 and #11 best. Something about the colors and silhouettes suiting you to a T.

And it may not be intentional on your end, but I'm falling in love with the socks and Birk shoes in #10. I was just reading about socks and sandals the other day on That's Not My Age.

And no Cocolion, not intentional. At least not in a stylish way :). My Birks are my slippers - and my big fuzzy slippers have blown a seam and need a trip to the cobbler, so the Birks are it. Not sure the socks and sandals thing will ever go out of the house on my feet, despite what British Vogue says!

Wow, Elizabeth, you have such great style. This is a great collection of outfits. I am swooning over 11, followed closely by 6, 7, and 5. You look gorgeous in those silhouettes and colors. Re: #12, the jacket seems to hit at the same spot as the red top in #7, so I don't think that length is inherently a problem. I'm guessing it's just the combination of the jacket with the tall boots and relatively light wash jeans in between, giving more of a broken-up look. I think the outfit looks nice on you, just flattering enough for a fresh change.

Firecracker, I have to say I'm somewhat humbled to have you, who has such great style, say that I have great style. Thank you! I certainly don't always feel it. I think you have a very good point with #12, maybe the length/chopping issue is compounded by the boots. I felt the red turtleneck outfit was less chopped because of the semi tuck(which doesn't show well in this photo), but that might have only been part if the equation. Good eye.
