WIW: Can you help name this style persona?

So... I feel like my style is in a time of transition. I think Beth Ann used the word breakthrough which I feel is so accurate because I feel the transition hit me very suddenly within the last 3 weeks or month. When Angie dubbed me an Arty Eclectic the wheels started rolling. FAST! I think i spend a lot of time in my "Preppy Grunge Tomboy" style persona and occasionally step that one up to "Disheveled Urban Prince" I have intrinsic RATE-ness even when I want polish.

But who is this new gal?

I feel like this look is very directional for me, esp. with the leather outerwear/accessories (sorry the hat didnt photo better, grrr, pic 3 is the hat from a different day). Your thoughts and feedback are so much appreciated!

Sarah, the way the striped sweater drapes on you is just perfect. I love when horizontal stripes have a fluid feeling. Great styling on this outfit too. And you look just fantastic in a hat!

You look fab! I think I do see eclectic and urban. Gosh this is tricky! In #1 you seem really on trend to my eye too. I love your hat as well! Sorry I don't think I'm much help!

I am thinking Sleek is a potential word here as well. And .... something girly? Demure Bombshell even? Yes? No?

ETA: Or perhaps this is just a trendier side of the Urban Prince persona? Since I know you other UP's out there love a skirt and frock too?

I get the feeling you may want to go for a more girly look as you asked "something girly? Demure Bombshell even? Yes? No?"

But from what I"m seeing I think the Urban Modern Tomboy is still a closer name. Not that I'm great at the naming style thing.

To me, "girly" or "bombshell" are more like body con, florals, a-line dresses, deep v-neck, high heels, feminine detailing on jackets, noticeable make-up and so forth.

Good point texstyle. This is girlier than many of my looks but probably a far far ways from actually "girly" and as I have no interest in 99.9% of florals, and will not be starting to wear either heels or makeup. Relative vs. absolute scales are important for me to remember.

Love this look, Sarah! I think the "tomboy" represents your preppy self, too. I see growing sleekness and sophistication in your look. You have an strong, feminine athletic appearance to me, too, which plays into both the tomboy and the sleek.

I like trendy urban tomboy, myself. I do not see bombshell, which I agree with texstyle is more bodycon/heels/makeup. Your hat, which you wear so well and obviously love, really says tomboy to me. Love your look.

I do not know who the new girl is but she is *gorgeous*! There's something that just zings about that first outfit. Like an energy frequency that's hit just right. Sleek is definitely a word I would use. I like urban too. But I'm still learning the style descriptors!

How about Urban Tomboy Chic? You have a real confidence to your look that says "chic" to me. I see a little "flirty" in you but I'm getting that more from your smile than your clothes. If its something you want to play with in your clothes, go for it!

it took me longer to get back to this post than I had anticipated...

I appreciate all the perspectives you have offered and that you each took the time to comment here.

I think one of my big challenges as an eclectic is that it can mean pretty much anything I want it to and I need more words, or pictures?, to hone in on what I want to emulate.

Overall, I think I prefer the word sleek because it means something I can see, texture, sheen etc. I struggle with what urban means to me as a style, I certainly dont live in an urban municipality so perhaps I dont see enough urban to develop an eye for that term.

Rachy, I like spunky. Interestingly this is a word Rae used to describe my very first WIW post. That was before I really knew where I was going or coming from stylewise so I think it is likely a core part of my personality showing through. I think this is a same part Angie uses the word arty to describe.

Beth Ann, I think my build does have a big part to play here. Neither my features nor musculature is dainty and so I gravitate toward the more boyish looks. At least no one still mistakes me for a boy (as occurred throughout my grunge teens and into my mid 20's! -- I was in military uniform though then so maybe Ill cut them some slack...)

I think I am giving Spunky Sleek Tomboy (as newly dubbed subcategory of Arty Eclectic) a try on for size.

I would say Modern Spunky Tomboy instead of sleek, or Modern Preppy Tomboy myself, but only because you said you prefer a bit of RATE and are not always polished.

Interesting Suz, I guess I think of sleek as having a capability for inherit RATE ness. Like Trinity in the Matrix was completely sleek but somehow I dont think of that look as polished. I suppose it is? Or maybe a bit of a 50's beatnik counter culture vibe is what I feel I am looking for in sleek.

I will surely keep my preppy looks as they are socially appropriate for DH's social circle, but myself feel I am trying to move away from it some. I really need to write this all in a dedicated post!
