Fall is in the air! Hit upper 60s tonight. Whoa!

Top - LOFT crew neck floral cotton 3/4 sleeve sweater
Skirt - trusty VC black ruched midi
shoes - trusty wedge caged lace up heels in cognac
bag - Coach Phoebe in cognac
Not shown - blue denim LOFT jean jacket

The sweater is not quite "skirt length" but it can be folded under (show here) and/or can be semi-tucked.

The neutral color combo may seem boring to YLF standards (and my own!) but I am investing more and more in practical neutrals (black, grey, cream/white, cognac, navy) because of their packing ease. Considering how much I am traveling lately, it just makes a lot of sense!

I dislike crew necks with a passion, because of my short neck and wide shoulders and all that... but something about this sweater seemed to work okay, and seemed totally work appropriate to boot. Frankly I think I'd have still preferred it in a boatneck, scoop neck or V-neck... but those are far and few between right now. But also maybe I was just a sucker for the pattern.... ?

I cannot wait to wear this sweater with a brightly colored scarf around my neck. I don't know quite why I like scarves triple wrapped around my neck, yet dislike crew-necks. Quite the conundrum!

The light color on the top, even tho a high crew still visually elongates you neck. I think that's why it works.

You are making me want to get a ruched tube skirt.

Ps.. You have talked about your weight gsin. I think you are handling this dressing challenge really well. And a big thumbs up from me re building a nuetrals wardrobe. I am flummoxed by color and pattern. Luckily i prefer mostly unembellished snd just have to worry about shades and tones.

Great outfit. I bet this one works in a multitude of work and non-work situations - one to copy for sure. I just cannot get my head around the ruched VC skirt - I have the plain black one, but when I see the ruched one on the racks it just looks to, well, sexy. It looks fantastic on you!

The neckline of the sweater is good on you here - and the denim jacket is the perfect topper for right now. Well done!

BJ - thank you .. I am trying to handle it well, it's tough because I'm at that cusp where what fits me width wise is just too long vertically. On the positive side, I'm finding it much more easy to find bottoms that fit these days. Tops.. are quite the struggle. Also I desperately need a bra fitting. My bras are so uncomfortable right now.

I love neutral patterns, the patterns just have to be scaled for 5'0 tall me. If they are, then I'm a total sucker. Then it becomes a matter of... do I have too many patterns and not enough solids??

While I'm at it... can I rave about these pants?? They are going to be core to my fall wardrobe. On me they are more like full length, but I love them!

YLF. Not boring at all imo. Having neutrals as the backbone of your wardrobe makes perfect sense to me

I really like this and think the crew works on you! With the pattern, the ruching on the skirt, and the cute shoes, there's nothing remotely boring about this.

And I feel you on how nothing is scaled for you if you're a short person who needs anything larger than ultra-teeny-tiny sizes. I think I'm both shorter and heavier than you, so I really feel you.

I do like the sloan fit in br. I resurrected some black ones from a few years ago that i fit into again (for the moment anyway!). I also have muddy grey ones that i may purge.

I'm 5'2" so i totally sympathize.

This is a great look on you. I would not have thought of using cognac but it works beautifully.

Joy - I've always adored black + cognac together. Around here (Boston) everyone wears head-to-toe black... with cognac tall boots. It's kind of like a "thing." And for this reason I have wanted tall cognac boots for ages, but have never had any luck (not counting my cowboy boots).

I may invest in cognac booties or loafers instead. I also like how bronze shoes work with the cognac bag -- that's what I wore earlier in the day for running around: bronze ballet flats.

I am a big fan of b/w and cognac too which is odd because I am also a big fan of vivid colors. I think this combination provides the visual stimulation of color because it works so well when there is a black and white pattern involved (like you're wearing here. I also love those sandals.
