WIW: Buffalo check flirty dress

Probably I will wear this to a low-key Thanksgiving, but here I just tried it on. (Excuse the messy hair, no makeup, and winter legs.)

Found it at WalMart! A great deal, and I nabbed it because I managed to avoid everything else.

Has many things I like: cotton/viscose blend, 3/4 sleeves, a fun minidress, and a pattern. Buffalo check seems to be having a moment, but I love it or not, depending on the item.

How would you style this? Jewelry, layers, accessories, makeup, shoes, etc? It seems like it could go in many directions. Myself, I would like to pair it with black Keds, maybe a blue neckerchief on a casual day. For a holiday, my black low pumps would do. With black, white, or patterned hosiery. But I am open to suggestions.

Cute on you! Patterned tights sound fun? A different kind of check, or subtle pattern? Otherwise black with your pumps- which are very nice, look smart.

Cute! For my style, if I still wore mini dresses, I would wear it with dark combat boots and tougher jewellery. For now I would wear it as a tunic-y top with jeans also with tougher jewellery and clompy dark sandals.

What Lise said! Perfect for grunging up a bit. Black tights, boots, coloured socks showing, and a few cheery cheap pins that are seasonal and blingy.

Oh fun, little dress to enjoy, love STAR and OLIVE GREEN' S suggestions, and your pumps will look lovely with the dress too. Yes, to patterned hose with it, certainly play around with coloured hose too. I can also see wearing it with black Oxfords or platform style Mary Janes as well. Maybe adding a loose black open vest and a cute floppy hat or beret.

Jenni--yes, a lace, or pinstripe, or even a check, like you mention--they have those. Thanks.
Lise--I did think of it as a tunic--yes. I will probably try that. I also immediately thought of my moto boots, which are like combat boots, but I do not wear combat boots. Clompy sandals is also a fun idea.
Olive--love the idea of the pins--so imaginative. Also the socks...there are so many possible socks to wear.
Dee--LOVE your idea for the hats and vest. Did not go there in my mind yet. Also Oxfords, great, and platform MJs, great, if I find some that would work with me.

Will work with wider leg pants as well as slim fits. Two different vibes. With wider legs will swing more boho. I would change the jewelry accordingly. Moto boots is a good sub for combats for when wearing it as a dress. Any clunky boot for juxtaposition.

Cute — I would definitely wear it with boots and probably leggings. Love the beret idea. I can also see a chunky stone, maybe turquoise, pendant. Great with a denim jacket. I also like the Keds idea but feel it’s kind of too short for heels.

VERY cute! I have a similar length and cut dress, and I wear it either with black leggings and yall boots, or with straight jeans and gold ankle boots. I hope you will show us how you styled it.

Everyone's ideas are great--there is much mention of boots. That was my first thought, too. Pants and boots take this in a more everyday direction.

I was just thinking what could amp it up? That is fun, though I probably won't be buying any of these things. Spats shoes with black lace tights. A Victorian hair bow, so popular now, but a little young for me. White loafers with white hose and a white or off-white turtleneck Dickie.

I am not too into the neckline, for myself, personally. What would be super different would be to put a thin grey or black hoodie underneath. Or, cover the neckline with a 2010s-style statement necklace, and top with a black brimmed hat, or maybe my grey Annie Hall hat.

Will try to style this later, as people mentioned. Thanks again for the input.

I would wear it with tights and flats or over jeans probably. But cowboy boots do sound perfect too.
