Well, I survived the dreaded bridal shower yesterday, and it was not too bad, although I was very glad to go out for drinks and tapas with friends afterwards to unwind. Also very glad to have a very quiet day at home the day after (let's just say that some of the ladies there were... a bit loud, to say the least). Oh, yes, and J. was nice enough to stay to protect me from the "aunties" the whole time, so he gets big points for that!
Anyway, here is what I wore. I ended up choosing this combo over my other favorite (floral/dot tulip skirt + grey "frilled lizard" top+blazer) because of the necklace. It only works with a plain neckline like this handknit top and collarless blazer. Anyway, the necklace belongs to J's mom, and she wore it at her engagement party >30 years ago. It is apparently a lotus flower (I think), which is a chinese homonym for "having a lot of sons" or something to that effect. Now, I'm not at all sure how I feel about that particular sentiment, but on the other hand I also don't believe in this kind of stuff, so I figure it's all in good fun and makes her happy. Plus it is a very nice necklace.
PS - best shower gift: Vitamix blender, woohoo! (this was on our wedding registry, it was given by a very nice lady and her family who can't make it to the wedding so it's really more like a wedding gift; still, very extravagant and very nice!)
Worst shower gift: diet book. Seriously.
Aqua blazer, handknit top, Komarov skirt, AT tights, Everybody Galla booties, Maxx New York handbag, borrowed heirloom necklace.
