WIW: Breaking out the maxi - YouLookFab Forum

Please let me preface this with a disclaimer: I know many people have a poison eye to this style. But, like bad movies, I can't help but love it.

Today has been a pretty great day. I'll be getting dolled up later and wearing the black dress seen here.

But, before that, I thought it was time to finally bring the maxi dress back out to play. I got this one last year and I've loved it. It has a similar V in the back as in the front. I need to find more of a summer purse/clutch, but I just haven't seen one that has screamed "Buy me" yet.

I couldn't get a good pic of it, but the necklace and earrings are a set. They have a cute little bronze leaf (it kind of looks like a philodendron) and a small faux pearl on each.

The second pic is my project for today. I saw a cute mail organizer on Pinterest a while back and finally found one that I think would work at Goodwill. I'm repainting it red (obviously), and then I'm going to stencil my and my BF's first initial on sides. I didn't wear the dress for this.

Any suggestions, comments or anything else is welcome.

I adore maxis and you look great in yours! Love the print and the colors are great on you.

I think part of why I like maxis is that they were very in when I was in junior high. I had a peasant style in a purple and white calico, a high-waisted number with ruffles over the shoulders in a cream/brown/pink Holly Hobby print, and a red and white checked one with red velvet ribbon trim. Ah, memories!

In terms of summer purses, last year I bought an inexpensive cream one (it wasn't even real leather) and I was amazed at how much I wore it. That told me that I could go ahead this year and commit! So you might consider trying out something summery at a lower price point.

I really adored the casual maxi dress I bought last summer, and just bought a striped jersey maxi skirt. You look great in yours!

Your mail sorter is great! My husband and I bought a four drawer one and have it labeled his, mine, bills, and shred. That way all the cc offers or other things we don't want in the wild get separated right for shredding right there. The recycle bucket is below the mail sorter so junk goes right in!

I really like the way this print plays with your glasses, Kristin. It's a striking look. You could go for a cream bag, or one that is a really bright pop of colour -- even neon! Or just bright yellow, pink, cobalt....These pop of colour bags are surprisingly versatile in the summer and can add a "third piece" when you can't bear a jacket. Or at least that's what I found last year. I bought a cheap yellow bag, to test the waters. I'd never used a bright bag before. Well, wouldn't you know it, I loved it so much that I wore it out!

I dont like maxi's as a rule but this one looks really great on you. I think the geometric pattern is really fun.

I love maxi dresses and yours is lovely on you. I really like that pattern. I second the recommendation of yellow. I got a leather bag last spring at Anthro. i loved using it and got tons of compliments. I found that it worked well with other colors and added a nice pop to black and white.

I am a maxi fan and don't really 'get' the reasons against them. I find they lend an easy elegance, especially in movement. But I digress . . . I like this and hope you find your spring purse soon. I scored a bright blue clutch/crossbody combo one at Ross for only $15! You might look there and Marshall's or TJ Maxx.
