WIW: Black & Blue and does this jacket look dated?

I'm enjoying wearing a used-to-be-taboo-to-me color combo: navy & black. In fact, DH helpfully informed me this morning that I didn't match. Wearing the trusty NYDJ ponte pants, black LS tee, Zara navy booties and this Liz Claiborne jacket that I found at a second hand store a few years ago. The jacket feel great on. And I like it. But I just want to make sure I'm not wearing "I found something great at a second hand store" goggles. I remember there was quite a discussion on the forum awhile back about navy jackets and whether they looked dated or not. Opinions?

I love the jacket, and I love black and blue. This is one of those "so conservative it's edgy" looks to my eye.

I suspect the only thing that looks dated about that jacket is the higher stance. Still it fits you so nicely--looks really sharp. I wouldn't worry about whether it's trendy or not. Let's call it classic.

Love navy and black together and this outfit is sleek and fab! The fit of the jacket is great and I love the length of it. I'm not sure about the gold buttons but that's an easy change.

Thanks everyone. I don't necessarily care if it's "trendy", was just hoping for at least classic. Shannon, I'm on the fence about the buttons. My initial thought was to switch them out but now I'm kind of liking them.

Loving it! Navy jackets dated? (ptttth!) I'm glad I missed that conversation ... second only to cobalt navy blue is my favorite color. I adore this jacket with the gold buttons and have been looking for a similar jacket for myself. I have not been able to find it in a cut that I like and a price that I like. Your goggles are just fine this jacket with black is fabulous.

I love it! That navy is a gorgeous one on you. Vibrant. It works brilliantly with the black. And the gold buttons give is pizzazz and a bit of shine.

It works great to my eye because of the slim pants and booties. Sort of a riding habit look that has an innate appeal. I can see that if I wore this jacket with wide leg trousers, it would flop. I also think it helps that longer jackets are trending. Super styling!

unfrumped - your post made me laugh because the reason I haven't worn this in the two years since buying it (besides being pregnant during that time) is the only way I could picture wearing it was with khaki's which would definitely look dated! Angie and this board opened my eyes to the beauty of black and blue worn together.

Very sleek! I also love navy and black together, but have been hesitant to wear it without another piece (with both colours in it) to make it look purposeful. Now I see that isn't needed. I personally would prefer it with different buttons, but hey.

I love this outfit. The sparkle of the gold buttons livens up the expanse of dark fabric, creates a long vertical line, and bookends your hair. And navy and black together? Sophisticated, unexpected, and less harsh than all-black on the fair complected.
