WIW black and brown, and WIT (what I tried)

I actually thought to take an outfit photo the other day, for a long day, bookended with a morning meeting and an evening presentation, with errands and a Pilates class right in the middle! This is what happens when you come home after being away for seven weeks, LOL.

The outfit might be a little unconventional considering the work-related activities, but both were casual in nature and as a creative type, I’ve embraced the ability to push norms a little bit. It’s a simple outfit - a sweater and jeans — but the oversized fit, the fringe detail, and the graphic color blocking mean that I have to feel it’s the right option for the day, IYKWIM.

I’ve realized that I enjoy wearing this when I pair it with bootleg jeans that fit close to the thigh but flare a bit at the hem. Wide-legs feel like a too wide overall silhouette, and narrow-ankle silhouettes feel a little unbalanced with the sweater. So these old 7FAMK Dojo jeans came out to play. I swear I get compliments on these jeans every time I wear them, so I will keep and wear them as long as I possibly can!

Black western booties finished it off, and a patterned silk scarf at the neck felt good on my neck and also helped soften the harsh black against my skin.

Pic 3 is a try on from a local boutique. I have attempted without success to find a new argyle sweater while they are trending. It’s really a challenge to find the right cut, silhouette, length, color palette, etc. I tried one at a Massimo Dutti in Madrid but it was too large and my size wasn’t available anywhere — it’s now sold out. I like this one from Autumn Cashmere but I’m not sure I love it, so I left it behind. I kinda like the color palette but it’s maybe a little dull for me and the orange doesn’t feel harmonious for some reason, so I heeded my instinct to pass. It wasn’t cheap either.

PS. Oh yeah, I FINALLY got a haircut! At the salon I was reminded that I was last there in May. Yikes! I’d been trimming my hair myself and razoring the layers a bit from time to time, but it felt good to have a pro get me sorted out before the holidays! We went a little choppier with the layers this time.

I remember that fringe sweater ! ( I think ? ) Love it with these jeans which I agree are the right cut here . Hair looks fabulous ! The argyle sweater was great until it reached the bottom band . Weird / stretched out diamond size and placement . Which is odd for such a high end brand to get wrong .

I love the argyle sweater including colors, pattern scale, neckline and fit! Feels so fresh and is matching hair color which is always so pleasing. I don't see bigger/stretched out diamonds on the hem, looking closer up on them they should be the same size with the darker ones from the background(?) of the main pattern just they are not split up by the colored ones and the white stitchings--so I think they are cleverly placed to further flatter the waist with their darkening and no color placement there effect! Only it feels a bit short to fitted pants?

And, I immediatelly noticed the new hair cut which really is GORGEOUS!!!

Dynamite outfit in pics 1 and 2! Love the jeans, fringed pullover, boots, and haircut. The addition of the small neck scarf is brilliant, adding a touch of pattern but not competing with the drama of the pullover design.

I do really like that argyle pattern and the color palette on you--even with the touches of orange--but I can also see how it might not live up to a lot of your more artful or edgy statement pieces, including the outfit you've shown in 1 & 2. Maybe the pattern is a little too busy or symmetrical?

I am a little late to the party. What is the verdict on this sweater? I think it looks phenomenal on you. And it is a bit out of the ordinary, so I can see it fitting very well with your style.

I left the argyle sweater behind. For the price, I would want it to be perfect — it felt more like a “maybe” than a “hell yeah.” I think if more details had been perfect — a V neck instead of crew, for example — it would have been a stronger contender. Something about the pattern was not quite right for me, too.

I really wanted the one from
Massimo Dutti but the shipping never came through (they issued a refund), and the store in Madrid only had a large, which was much too big.

It’s hard to find the perfect argyle! Too many are color palettes that don’t work for me (pink, beige), cuts that don’t work, or are fabrications I just can’t accept. I also don’t want too traditional — I love that so many sweaters now are slightly cropped but just need to find the one that works for me.

The bit of fringe on the sweater in #1 is such a fun and creative detail, it's lovely on you. The jeans are great as well, I can see why you get compliments on them. Your legs look so good in these. I really like the grey argyle sweater, it's pretty with your hair! But understand if it's not sparking joy for you, best to find one that does spark joy instead. The new haircut is excellent! YLF!

Your hair looks fab Janet. This is a really cool outfit and I can see this cut of jeans is really working for you. Good call leaving that argyle sweater behind. With the band detail that LJP noticed and the colour mix in general you can do better. It is cool that you have a good eye for what works for you and that you listen to it.
