WIW: Birthday Blues - YouLookFab Forum

Today is my son's 16th birthday, and his favorite color is blue. I hardly ever wear blue, except for jeans. To honor him I put together this outfit with his three favorite colors, blue, brown and black - plus green which is one of mine.

Blue silk blouse -J Crew
camisole top (blue)
Brown shorts - J Crew
Black Birk's
Statement Necklace (Charm and Chain)
Assorted Bangles - real and costume
Olive Green Topper - Bobeau

I have tried to keep new style descriptor words in mind as I picked out my clothes. They are Easy (for comfort, casual, approachable), Creative (for arty, eclectic, boho nuances), Calm (low contrast, muted colors, understated elegance), Graceful (feminine, athletic, light, refined, tasteful, polished), and Simple (classic, unfussy).

It's similar to another outfit I posted recently only I used a different topper, and shorts this time, instead of leggings. (Oh, and the top is a different color).
What do you think?

Very rich looking color palette. I'd like to see the camisole tucked for a cleaner look (which would work with your descriptor "Simple"). LOVE that necklace, wow. I do find the black sandals just a wee bit harsh though. Do you have any gold, bronze, brown, or cognac sandals?

Great outfit on you! That blouse is sumptuous looking. I like the way the solid colors allow your jewelry to shine. I also would like to see sandals in a brown tone, though the dark ones are fine, especially considering that they are sandals and quite bare ones (so they add a fairly light dose of black).

I agree a softer toned sandal would look better with this. I picked the black because it is one of my sons favorites. I don't own any other Gizeh's though and I thought they went well with the necklace.

Good suggestion to tuck the camisole. Im not sure why I didn't do that?

I also somehow made it through the day without a watch! Very unlike me!

Nice combination of blouse and shorts. Fashionable fits, and great addition of the necklace. A black top would bookend the black sandals really well too. How about a black topper?

Thanks everyone! I have never tried a black top before, or topper. I don't own any. I think black washes me out. Maybe I will post a pic of myself in the two LBD's I own and put it to the YLF audience.

My son enjoyed his birthday. Especially the presents! He appreciated that I wore his favorite colors. Today he is going for his driving permit. He's very nervous about driving. I hope that will make him safe and careful. (I'm sure everyone hopes that!)
