WIW: BFs and oxfords

I picked up some new Gap SBFs in the long length recently so that I could wear them full length. These are the 100% cotton ones with no stretch, so they fit somewhat slimmer and stiffer than my other, stretchy pair. I really like the structure from the 100% cotton fabric. Today I tried the tomboy look with a faux-tucked pinstripe blouse and my grey oxfords.

I feel like something is a bit off with this outfit but I can't figure out what. Maybe it's just that it's more tomboy than usual for me. Or maybe i need to show more or less ankle? I don't really have the right kind of blazer, but I do wish I had tried one of mine with this anyway.

Love it. Maybe roll the sleeves a bit or scrunch them? I think it looks fab!

ETA: I love the 100% cotton versions too. I stocked up as those have been my summer "shorts" this year.

Kelly, I don't want to roll my sleeves because it's kind of chilly and my arms will be cold. =P But I could see that it might help.

I also hacked a pair of SBFs into shorts this summer. Those were the 99% cotton/1% spandex ones which were still pretty structured.

Oh, I assumed you were sweltering like I have been. I could have sworn you said it was hot and muggy the other day! I think this outfit just reads a little more masculine than you are used to--perhaps that is what seems off to you. The view from over here is terrific--I love it on you.

It's 70 and raining right now. But tomorrow there is a forecasted high of 97 and more rain. Ugh. Earlier this week we had fantastic early autumn weather, 70s and dry and sunny, but I guess that didn't last.

I like the look, but I understand not scunching the sleeves. My office is frigid and it is 93 degrees outside. Last week they were talking about frost . . .

I agree the sleeves look a little long on the blouse. Maybe just roll back on the cuff once. you are a brave soul - just about all my jeans have stretch now.

This is actually the length I like my sleeves to be if they are full-length (I know I am in the minority here). I detest bracelet length sleeves with a passion and I want my wrist bones covered all the way. If i was to roll or cuff these (no way a scrunch would stay put) it would be to at least mid-forearm or shorter.

You are so huggable, Diana. And yes - Mega Tomboy is how I would describe your outfit too. Totally works to my eye. 10 out of 10.

A bit of a departure from your usual looks, but to me this is still very much a you outfit and it is killer. I think we are oxford twins. Have to go to my closet and check Ugh, tomorrow it's back to unfab but (marginally) cooler and definitely skimpier outfits.

I do like the BF and oxford look on you!

So, if trying to analyze or tweak what might look better--not that I'm on track or it would actually BE better, but here are my thoughts:

At first I thought there is too much unstructured fit for you, and your frame is a bit overwhelmed. But maybe not, as that is just "the look". I do think the sleeves should be at least no longer than the correct sleeve length--could you turn the cuff a hair or tighten the buttons? But not if you like your hands cozy. The next thing I'd try is a shirt that is either in a darker color (ooh, I know Angie loves the white shirt!)--so one of your good medium-toned colors-- or more crisp/opaque, if white. For some reason I'd like to see what that does.

Anyhoo--these are just ideas for playing around with it. still a great outfit that gives you a different look.

I got the 100% cotton ones somewhat by accident, and though it took some getting used to, I do love the structure. Your outfit looks great, I especially love the silver oxfords!

Hm, yes, I see what you mean. I do love the outfit, but it isn't 100% Diana somehow. I do think a little more visible ankle would help bring back some femininity. And maybe a pretty/colored/metallic/feminine belt?

Okay, I was so excited to see this outfit that I didn't notice your worry. I think scrunching the sleeeves would make a huge difference. Or maybe that would be MY style.

I actually like the sleeve length on you, it looks deliberate imo. If you wanted to try a girly touch a lighter belt would be my choice - YLF.

I'm always super happy when I scroll down and see that what I'm thinking is totally in harmony with Angie's opinion! I think you look fantastic in this!!! It is a bit of a departure for you because it is very deliberate tomboy sexy, but it looks very deliberate tomboy sexy. I love it. In fact, I'm planning on wearing my oxford shoes and button downs in more or less the same way this fall. I love the hint of ankle and Iove how the sleeves are a bit long, looking a little like a borrowed men's shirt and a little bit luxurious.

Thanks, all. I think that it's mostly just that this outfit is a bit too tomboy for me. Maybe it is just a question of getting used to it. Rae, I really like your idea of adding a metallic or colored belt. Unfortunately I don't have one that will work with BFs (I have a wider silver belt that's too short, and several long skinny ones, but not one that is both wide and long). It is definitely on the shopping list though.

I also kind of wish I had a slightly more delicate shoe, or one that showed a little more skin at least, like Anna's smoking slippers today. But the foot issues involved with that (shoes falling off, secret socks showing, bunion squishage, etc) would probably drive me nuts.

I could already feel the heat and humidity rising on my way home tonight, though, so it's back to summer clothes for the next couple of days. Glad I got the chance to wear long pants for once though.

Nothing's off with this outfit. I think you hit the nail on the head -- more tomboy than you're used to. YLF!

Absolutely LOVE the fit of those BF's on you Diana! Not so baggy in the legs that they completely hide your figure, you know? I also don't mind the sleeve length. I think the outfit looks great but I guess it boils down to how YOU feel in it.

Well I love it but you could play with rolling/scrunching the sleeves and rolling up the jeans a bit.

I like it as is. Yes, scrunching and rolling would give you more structure (from skin), but this looks deliberate and masculine in a good wear. I think a vest might look terrific as a topper.

tomboy and adorable. If you are not quite ready for full tomboy, do you have a more feminine version blouse to wear instead? I don't usually where a full masculine shirt when I do this look because I need to balance feminine and masculine and try not to let either dominate (dresses excluded)

I do think you look fab Diana, but I understand the feeling of wearing something that feels too tomboy as that's not my style either. If you want to still embrace it more, Angie always says its good to feel a little stretched as long as you don't feel to far removed from your comfort zone. It's a way of evolving I guess. I hear you on the chilly arms too
