1) I wore this combo yesterday to take my mother and her BFF to a holiday luncheon. Her friend just moved from her home of 48 years into a retirement home and has had a little trouble adjusting. It was so sweet to see these great friends connect again and share a little of the "Christmas Spirit" with each other.

2) Trying to switch up the tall boots/skinny jean rut I have been in and wore:(this was taken before a badly needed haircut)

Thanks for posting #1. I just bought a pair of lace tights and I have been trying to figure out how to wear them. I like the texture and dimension they add to this outfit.

The blouse in #2 is gorgeous! I love how the cardigan and trousers complement the pops of color. Wonderful!

Outfit one is fantastic, Carole! I so love the mustard skirt with the striped sweater, and the patterned hose takes it up another notch! Outfit two is beautiful as well, the colours of the top and cardigan are fab on you, and the silhouette is great.

Wonderful outfits in both cases! I love the textures and color in #1, very modern. The silhouette in #2 is more classic, but the color/pattern play and the proportions makes this an excellent choice, along with the perfect fit.

When we're older, I hope we'll all have younger relatives and friends who will take us out to lunch with a friend. Those connections, and those simple freedoms, are so precious and not to be taken for granted.

Love both of these. The rich colors in #2 are TDF, and I adore the stripes in #1 with the skirt.

Carole, I can't help but think that you posted outfit number one as a special favor to me; thank you! I can think of a better way to style this sweater! Too bad I don't have a colored pencil skirt. I wasn't sure I'd like the proportions of the super-long sweater with a skirt, but it looks just fabulous on you. The second outfit is really nice too--and your hair looks fine to me. It just looks a bit mussed in that French, uncontrived way that comes off as charming. How nice of you to take your Mom and her chum out to lunch. I hope my DD grows up to be just like you!

Beth Ann- Thanks for the nice compliments! You are so right. Independence is not to be taken for granted. These two gals are both at the mercy of families to get them where they need or want to go and I know it's frustrating to be dependent in that way.

Claire, I WAS thinking of you when I decided to wear this outfit! I can see how a pencil skirt might not be at the top of your list to wear with your new sweater, but for me the proportions work as I am very short waisted and tall to boot! Just a little food for thought for your new sweater!
