WIW: Autumn colors in winter AKA Brown Boot Debut

I'm sure some people are of the opinion that this outfit is a bit "seasonally confused" to use a term I've seen thrown around here, and it certainly isn't the outfit I meant to wear first with my new boots, but Thursday is Skirt Day and I have been really wanting to try this top/skirt combo. I'm still totally undecided about it... I did notice that the skirt is a bit wrinkled, I'm not sure if steaming it this morning would have fixed it or if that is from my commute. If it's from the commute, I'll probably nix the skirt. I prefer items that don't wrinkle that easily!
I really, really love this blouse. I love how the collar has a built-in silk scarf feel, and adore hidden buttons. It just feels very "classy" and quite retro. I wish I could get it to stay tucked in a bit more, it's a bit too billowy.. but that could be because it is a smidge too big on me. I might try to take in the side seams a bit.
The tights are dark brown and actually have a very small checked pattern that I really like. Oh, and a leather belt for added waist definition. I love the detailed stitching on it.
I have small cz earrings on, I didn't feel anything else was necessary.
Bronze/brown eyeshadow, and nude/pink lips with a faint gold shimmer. Hair was freshly blow-dried this morning so I left it down (that's only a once or twice a week occurrence lol)

I did bring this chunky cardigan to wear if I get chilly, I can't decide if I like it with the outfit or not. Also not sure if I like it better buttoned or not. (It is NOT green, I have no idea why it looks that way in the one photo)

Any comments on this outfit, or suggestions on better pairings of the blouse and/or skirt are certainly welcome!!

Yep the colors exactly, it seems very "autumn" to me.
The more I sit, the more this skirt is wrinkling, so it's probably out the door.

Such a pretty color and textural combination and I love your blouse for the reasons you mentioned. What's the skirt fabrication? It really does look nice on you, but I know what you mean about the wrinkles and thinking you may have to deal with that on each wearing. btw, OT, but do you like your steamer? I've often considered buying one.

I like the Autumn tones you have on which go well into the Winter months. It's nice to see since I wear so much black. Is your skirt cotton (hence the wrinkling)? If so, maybe keep for Spring and Summer.

The skirt is stretchy-ish, not sure exactly what material. Mostly synthetic I would guess. On closer evaluation, I think I could keep it if I only wore longer items over top, that would conceal the wrinkle factor, but that seems like too much to keep track of or try to remember. Inevitably, I see myself forgetting that and wearing it the

Also, I'm not feeling this outfit as much as I thought i might... perhaps it's the fact that I'm surrounded by college grads who are 10 years younger than me and all wearing super current trends, but I'm feeling a little too matronly. Again, I think if the blouse fit better that might not be the case.

Vicki - I haven't used my steamer yet, but I feel certain I will love it once I do!!

I might also want to see this outfit with the shirt untucked. Of a similar shirt untucked. But keeping the sweater on. Just a thought.

I thought about doing that, but the blouse has an unfinished hem. And it's not pretty.

I like the outfit a lot, especially with the sweater on. I see what you mean about it being an "older" look (although a very nice, classic look)--I mean the skirt and blouse. The sweater transforms the outfit and pulls everything together to my eyes. I think it's because it's darker in color and so it ties with your darker tights and boots. Or maybe it's the layering effect that makes it modern.

On the billowy blouse: it doesn't look overly billowy to me, but your post made me think of a trick I used in the 80s to secure those oversized tops and keep them from looking like inflatable balloons by the end of the day. I used to tuck my tops under the waistline of my tights (and sometimes, even under my underwear). I would pull the edges down as tight as I could. This would help keep things in place. The shirt might still move a little during the day, but not as much as if only tucked under pants or a skirt, and it was easy to re-tuck with a quick trip to the bathroom.

I usually don't tuck my tops in anymore, but if I do, I use this trick!

Thanks KM, I use that trick too (I think you or someone else recommended it on an earlier post of mine) and even did it with this outfit, but the blouse was just too slippery and kept coming out lol

I feel like the skirt needs to be ever so slightly more tapered or something. I don't think you look matronly... But you do look awful nice... Sit in a corner in the library and knit nice. Maybe a heavy belt.

Yes! That's it... it's just too "sweet" like you can't imagine me ever getting up on stage and rocking. Not that every outfit has to have that element, but this is just soooo far from it. So many of my outfits seem fragmented and completely distal from each other, and I want to change that.

Maybe a lighter color to the tights? They're the darkest piece in the outfit and they're drawing my eye. The fits on everything are great. I can see what you're talking about with the sweetness - I have that issue sometimes with dressier outfits; everything is so proper that it feels like I'm playing a role in a play or something. An edgier jacket could work if you have one that works with the color scheme.

You could trade out the blouse for some type of oversized luxe "sweatshirt" or knit top. That would de-bombshell the skirt a bit - and make the outfit look a bit more current.
I think that the pussy-bow blouse paired with the skirt takes it into the "matronly" category that you were feeling. If you love the blouse, how about wearing it with a pair of distressed jeans and a moto jacket? The juxtaposition of the different pieces in the same outfit would make it pretty fun!
