WIW: Aunt Green (looking for Aunt Brown and Aunt Lavender)

Elsa Beskow, a Swedish illustrator, created the classic children's novel "Aunt Green, Aunt Brown and Aunt Lavender" which was published in 1918. It's a common heritage for Scandinavian children.

My outfit today is inspired by the new green blazer. I've combined it with my old faithful Mette Møller dress in merino wool and cognac heeled boots. To add some color complements I've combined this with my burgundy bag and an old brooch, inherited from my Grandma, used as a button. When I saw the photos, I thought: "I look like Aunt Green!"

#1 and #2 shows the actual outfit, and #3 shows the dress layered with a striped tee and with different boots.

What do you think? Does this green-on-green outfit work or not? All comments and advice are appreciated as always. Thanks for looking!

beautiful, Aunt Green! I really like this green with cognac boots. Not sure about #3 though!

I'm not sure about #3, but I really like #1/2! I think it's because #3 lacks structure without the blazer. The first outfit is great, I love the greens together with the burgundy bag and your cognac boots look awesome with your hair color! I actually prefer them to your black boots. These all are just so happy colors!

I like the green with the cognac boots better than with the black boots. But then I like the dress with the striped tee better than with the green blazer. Maybe try the tee with the dress and the cognac boots?
I'm not sure about the blazer with the dress. I don't dislike it, but my natural inclination would be to not put two different shades of the same color together. I'd like to see what others have to say about that...

The green on green works for me, it looks fantastic with your hair. The structure of the jacket offsets the softness of the knit dress, in contrast #3 looks a bit shapeless (the gathered bit at the hem distracts me while it doesn't in #1). I also prefer the cognac boots to the black ones.

I must be related to Aunt Green, Aunt Brown and Aunt Lavender -- with green eyes these are most flattering colors!

I like how I can see a sliver of skin on the cognac boots, unlike with the black boots. I like the blazer and dress together, but I also like the striped shirt. Two different looks for sure. Can we see the stripe shirt with the cognac boots?

I actually find #3 completely unexpectedly delightful! I also like the other looks. They do make me think of springtime, which could be a good or bad thing with months of winter ahead But you look cheery and happy in them.

(Scandinavian art and children's stories give me a happy, peaceful feeling...for example the illustrations of Carl Larsson. and Moomin I will have to check out this book now.)

I actually like both versions of this Ingunn - the green on green of the first outfit is positively delightful with your colouring and it doesn't bother me in the least that the greens aren't exactly the same. Plus the colour is just AMAZING with your beautiful hair and skin tone. The brooch as a button is so pretty (I LOVE anything vintage and with a family story behind it). I also like the dress with the striped tee underneath and the darker boots to bookend the darker stripes.

Please don't ever stop posting your outfits - your style just WOWS me!

Being here on YLF, I'm appreciating the buttoned-up look more & more, but I think I prefer this dress worn un-buttoned with a layering piece under it, as in #3. (To my eye, a lower "V" looks more balanced with this high empire waist than buttoning it up does.) I love it that you're wearing your Grandmother's brooch, though! How about wearing the dress unbuttoned with a cami under & blazer over & the brooch on the lapel of the blazer? I especially love the green & the cognac on you! I like the stripes layered under the dress too. Maybe a scarf tying the colors of the outfit & boots together?

I love this buttoned, and all green, with the earthy cognac - ah! The striped-and-black look loses its lighthearted elfish whimsy, but it's still cute.

The lightness and freshness of the outfits with the cognac boots is in big contrast to #3. I really, really love all-green look, it seals what we'd learnt the other day how wonderful you look in this color.
I like 3 too, but since your hair is ligher and also wavy, the last outfit appears somewhat harsh and lacks fluidity and softness of 1/2.

I wonder what this dress and cognac boots would look like with some other softer or closer-to-nature colors?

I love this tone on tone outfit! The burgundy pop is so eye catching. I am always looking for ways to harness the tension between green and red tones. I also love the pop of cognac with the boot. The vintage details on the collar are a subtle romantic touch. Bravo!

Thank you, thank you, fab ladies, you are the best confidence boosters ever! It seems that most prefer the cognac boots by far, and I agree, it's the best alternative. I do have a black, short jacket, though, and when I wear that with the green dress, it looks ok with black boots. This dress is among the oldest garments in my wardrobe, but it will never be donated, at least not until it is worn to threads.
