A couple of months ago, Angie posted about wearing an athleisure outfit topped with a dressier style of coat. Today I’m wearing a decidedly athleisure type of ensemble but am adding my rarely-worn but still-loved Burberry trench coat. I bought it when I was a good solid size smaller than I am now, but it’s still wearable as long as I don’t put bulky layers under it. I’ll never let it go because I adore the color!

The proportions are probably slightly less than perfect to my eye — full-length pants would do a better job with this length of coat and wouldn’t chop me in half so much, but I’ll probably wear it open anyway as it is not very cool today.

To me, the combination works because the outfit is not too sporty — it doesn’t look like I’m going for a run — and the coat isn’t so dressy that I look mismatched. I like tempered juxtaposition!

Tee: ancient Ralph Lauren side-stripe tee — I think this actually pre-dates YLF by a couple of years, and somehow has stayed in fantastic condition. I love a good side stripe to help define my shoulder line and balance out my hips.
Pants: Athleta Brooklyn pants
Shoes: Naturalizer snake print sneakers
Bag: Aimee Kestenberg
