I'm going to the symphony after work today and really wanted to wear a dress but it's too cold. Instead I decided to go with my wideleg Martin trousers and Bellatrix jacket for an arty business casual look. Although I'm a little too dressed up for lab, I will fit in well with the rest of my group tonight (J., his coworker, and her husband) as they are all coming from work where they actually have to wear business casual. Coincidentally, I think it is a good illustration of today's blog post! (And look, Angie, I remembered to link from it this time.)

Anyway, to amp up the arty side I chose to put a drapey bright pink silk top underneath instead of, say, a plain black shell.

I am still a little ambivalent about wide leg trousers. These feel like too much fabric in the legs for a tailored silhouette and kind of feel simultaneously too buttoned up and too sloppy at the same time. Could be the grey color too though. They are comfy though. In contrast, my black straight leg Martins are a lot easier to style for a tailored look. I'm wondering if what I really need are not tailored wide leg trousers but super drapey, oversized ones (like a paper bag waist style).
