I wore this first look to work, then I stopped off at the grocery store. I was striding down the frozen food aisle and a little girl was watching me. When I got to her, she said "Are you a girl or a boy?" I smiled and said "I'm a girl." I laughed all the way home about it! Maybe the buttoned up collar confused her :)?

Sorry the pics are a little dark--I had time to snap them today, and it was cloudy.

#1: BR white button down (very old), J. Crew striped silk pullover, J. Crew navy jersey pencil skirt (very old), Cheap Monday gray booties.

#2: Wore to a meeting and to do errands. Gap striped sweater, J. Crew matchstick slouchy jeans (I sized up), same booties.

#3: Wore to teach. Madewell polka dot blazer, ON chambray shirt (old), Tucker floral pants, Vaneli booties.

#4: Wore to teach (getting a bit cooler now). J. Crew blouse, Kenneth Cole gray jacket, olive cargo skirt via yoox.com (SO deemed it "sexy"--go figure!), new Alberto Fermani gray boots, via yoox.com. Somehow I think this looked better IRL, but whaddyagonnado?

You know I always love frank feedback, if you'd like to share! I guess I am digging the buttoned-all-the-way-up-slightly-nerdy thing lately.

Very cool! I especially enjoyed your teaching outfits. Your new boots are just as neat as your sandal/booties.

The longer length of slouchy jeans in #2 seems to create perfect proportions with the booties. If they were rolled up a bit higher, the proportions would be a bit off but it looks like you nailed it.

#1 kind of has a Linus-from-Peanuts vibe to it! Maybe that was the cause of the little girl's (adorable!) confusion, eh?

#2 is SO FAB!!! Love the neon with the BF's!

#3 is totes fab and reminds me of this fab look I put on my Pinterest: http://www.faintlymasculine.co.....nce-i-hate. Dots and flowers! What's not to love?

#4? I am totally feeling the sexy!!

Jonesy, I have just woken and I am soaking in your inspiration:). Funny story:). Have to love how direct children can be!

I love the stiles in the first sweater. I have seen Atlanic Pacific in a fabulous long jacket on that same color set and stripe.

You have a bit of a gift for making what is essentially a relatively casual outfit (#2) into a very put together "dressy" looking ensemble (to mye eye anyway.

Jonesy, may I ask do you plan your outfits a week ahead ? Do you photograph a new combo before wearing? I ask because you never put a foot wrong:)

They're all great. My favorites are #2 and #3.
I think in #1 the white shirt needs to be a bit longer to wear untucked. Just that smidge of white looks a bit weird.

You are so clearly a girl!!! That's hilarious. You're a good sport to chuckle all the way home. Kids crack us up, don't they?

I just can't pick a fave! All outfits are deliciously YOU. Interesting, flattering, fashion forward, covered, fun and KILLER.

You had me with the layered button down in #1. You know that :). Nice to see the old skirt get some limelight. Love the stripes!

You had me with the citron in #2. Dig those sized up matchsticks!! (I've just done that to skinnies - stay tuned for pics soon). Not that it makes any difference to you I'm sure, but I am hard to please with the rolled hem trouser look, but your way is so pleasing to my eye. Thank you! I bet your Docs will look fab here too.

You had me with the polka dots in #3. So fab mixed with the floral and old denim shirt! I have fond memories of those pants because you were wearing them when we met

You had me with the military style of the jacket in #4! The outfit looks as amazing as you thought it did :). Love the new boots!!

Your plant is also looking great. We have one of those plants, but yours is looking much glossier. Our kitten keeps wanting to climb ours.

The girls asked if you were a boy or a girl while you were wearing a skirt?! That is hysterical. Anyway, I love your outfits, and can't pick a favorite. I love the jacket in #4, the blouse with striped shirt in #1, the fit of the jeans in #2 and, although #3 is the least easy for me to imagine copying, I would have loved to have you as my teacher.

Thanks, everyone! Angie, as usual, I appreciate your detailed feedback and kind words :). Thanks for your thoughts about the slouchy jeans--I am definitely going to go with the Docs when it cools down. I am sentimental about the flowered pants too, after wearing them to the Chicago get-together!

Thanks for the thumbs up on the slouchy jeans, Makrame, Alicat, and Shannon! They are sooo comfy and fun to wear. Alicat, this plant was unhappy in another room that got less light, but now seems to be flourishing. Could yours need more light? Shannon, I am digging the Gap right now too, more than I have in a while.

Deborah, that is a very nice thing to say. Thanks! I plan a bit ahead of time, and keep a list of outfits for each season. Then I will think of what I'm going to wear when I'm walking the dog. J. Crew did make a longer topcoat out of that fabric, so that blogger must have it!

ETA: Yep, Shevia! Somehow the skirt was trumped by the top half of the outfit, and perhaps my largeness :). Thanks for your comments! You know, a while ago I would have been too self-conscious to wear anything like #3 to teach, but now I'm like "why not?" LOL.

I can't tell you how many times I see some flowy, printed pants and think of you It's one of your signature looks and you wear them fabulously!

Based on the title I was expecting something really gender-bending, but now I really wonder what that little girl was thinking. I am going with the tallness theory. Kids are funny--who knows it could have been much more obscure than that. She is clearly trying to figure something out about the world, eh? Love the Linus comment though. I didn't notice the white tails at first (there is always a lot to take in with your outfit, in a good way!) but after having it pointed out I think I would prefer to see none.

Love the touch of fluorescent in 2, especially paired with gray, and I also like the comment above about how you bring elegance to what should be a casual outfit. Honestly that might have something to do with height too.

3 is pure fun

I really love 4. That one is my favorite. Definitely got a bit of a tough, sexy, chic thing going on.

You have great style! I find it hard to pick a favorite here, but I'm particularly drawn to #1, I think. I love that shirt/t-shirt combo. What was that girl thinking!? Hard to tell, but amusing for sure! I'm into buttoning up my shirts these days too, very cool. I also love your patten mixing. Thanks for the inspiration!

Great looks and I'm going to steal your formula from #1 as I have that striped top and was wondering if I need to retire it for the fall/winter. Not anymore! I also am digging my one size up matchsticks. I'm not stalking you (really) but let me know what you're going to purchase next so I can get it too

Whenever I wear a button down (buttoned all the way up or not) my DD would say I looked like Daddy. It's definitely the button down and possibly the stripes which do resemble many of my DS' shirts.

You look great and continue to rock the full up button. Keep inspiring us!

Two more things

- REALLY love the short mass of curls on your head.

- And peep-toe booties or sandals with high vamps and peep-toes, are "the" shoe on the S/S 2013 runways. You are ahead of the game! Best you double up on those Cheap Mondays!

Oooh, what a treat! As usual, I love everything. How funny about that girls comment. I do think it is your height because you obviously are a girl. Love the Charlie Brown vibe of 1. #4 is super fab--the proportions and vibe are most excellent on you. You have such a playful and fun style. Great pattern mixing. Gorgeous use of neon in 2. I want to try and figure out how to copy that one!

As always, you look incredibly cool and fab. I actually think I like #4 the best- those boots are SO great, and they work so perfectly with your ankles and leg length, and I really like the jacket and the unexpected skirt. Those sized-up jeans are great - do you have a belt on? My BF jeans fall down without a belt, but I'd like to wear them with sweaters (maybe even that one - I have it in another color). It makes me smile to think of you wearing pattern mixed floral pants to teach. I'm sure your students get a huge kick out that. Thanks for sharing your outfits. I always love to see them.

My absolute favorite here is #4. Those boots are amazing and I just love the whole vibe. Also loving #1 and laughing over that little girl's comment. Who knows what she was thinking? Cracks me up that she would ask with all those fab curls and when you're wearing a skirt!

Suze, Rae, MNSara, and Carole, thanks for your thumbs up about the baggy jeans/sweater look! Sarah, yes I do wear a belt with these (you maybe can't tell in the pic, but there is probably 2" of crotch drop going on, and without a belt they would be close to falling off), and yes, I did wear this outfit to work for a meeting :). I wouldn't wear these jeans to teach (though I would wear floral pants!) but for meetings they are fine, I think.

Ingunn, thanks for the buttoned up love! Jeanne, I think you are right that for some kids, buttoned all the way up = Daddy's dress shirts for work. I am chuckling at your stalking comment --I hope you will post your sized-up Matchsticks here sometime!

Angie, thanks for chiming back in re. my curls and booties. I like my hair at this length a lot. I might go 1/2-1 inch longer, because I like to be able to pull it up and wear it in a bun or ponytail, and right now it's a teeny bit short to do that, but I'm definitely going to keep it above shoulder length. Re. the peep-toes: I love these shoes! I remember when peep-toes first emerged. I wasn't really a big fan, because they didn't seem practical. Now I see that they work perfectly for my summer climate (typically pretty mild, though this summer was HOT), and can spice up even a basic outfit. I would love to find some more :).

Kellygirl and Christy, thanks for your thoughts about #4! I like that one a lot too. I am excited to play around with that cargo skirt. I am loving the oversized utility look that I've seen on the runways (inspiration pics, below). I know this skirt isn't oversized, but it's nice to have a skirt that isn't a pencil, you know?

Ah, yes! That just-too-short-length that means ponytails are out. A little longer to accommodate a bun will look just as wonderful. You really do have fabulously uniform spiral curls
