Hello to all

it’s been a stunning autumn here - 2024 is delivering crisp clear days right now 80% of the time - it’s never 100 on an island of course.

I feel as though I have shopped a fair bit this year but so far I have been wearing my additions. There are a couple of pieces that are still to be truly tested though.

Work looks from my capsule

The first six looks are all work days. Simple clean lines and not a lot of pattern. My capsule has had the addition of a navy roll neck too - we call them skivvies - and some white sneakers. Both have been practical essentials for me. These are the Frankie4 Riley’s and I love them - so comfortable!!

Now I am wearing more navy my bag collection feels off - I am making do - and on most days my bag is not really seen…..but I am considering hunting for a off white bag to wear with the navy.

I cut the puff sleeves off my pink sweater to make it a vest. I will wear it under blazers. That’s shown in the sixth photo (pic3)

Work and play

Some work days I just wear what I feel like and go very casual or choose something more creative. The photo 4 features two work looks that are more feminine and breezy than usual. The patterned blouse is my riskiest addition this year - it’s more of a peasant style blouse than I would usually choose.

Photo 5 is a theatre look and a wedding look. It’s always fun to get dressed up isn’t it!! This was a chance to wear my new second hand snakeskin boots.

WSIW

I purchased these Alamais wide leg pants second hand. I am yet to wear them. I head away with some of my oldest dearest friends for a weekend and we have an Italian meal out planned. I thought of this outfit but I am not sure. Photo 6 shows the look and a close up of the colours. No hair and makeup. How can I improve? - it’s autumn so I need sleeves now and ideally a jacket. I don’t have a lot of top options for these pants - I did intend them for summer but I think they would work now in the evening too.

Very pretty outfits as always! I particularly like the navy pantsuit enlightened by the colorful blouse and the light-colored accessories in #2, the two playful work looks in # 4, the blue floral dress in # 5 (you always look fab in that dress!) and the final outfit in # 6 - very nice colors and silhouette! No suggestions for improvement, I find it perfect as it is.

All look good, frankly. The muted pinks in pics 3 and 4 seem to do great things with your complexion.
The wide patterned pants might look good with a long sleeved button down in white, or a colour picked from the pattern. Something a bit crisp to contrast with the fluid pants.

Lovely mixture of looks, especially like the navy suit with the pink swirl top and beige shoes/handbag.
My inclination for the wide legs patterned pants would be to wear a top that wasn’t such high crew neck but rather a v neck or scoop. I think your Denver wedge shoes would look nice with it too.

You are having a terrific autumn! What fabulous and creative outfits. You look polished and modern in all. The subdued floral in 4 is stunning on you - you wear dresses so well. The silhouettes differ but they all somehow look very you--that must mean you really have honed your style!

The navy pants suit makes you look 8 ft tall. So chic and gorgeous on you! LOVE!

Sally, you look spectacular. I love the navy suit on you. (Well, I would, wouldn't I?) But it seems the perfect combination of professional and relaxed. The blazer is super fab -- looks easy to wear. And I'm so glad the new sneakers are working out. They look great!

Clever idea to get rid of the puff sleeves on your sweater and give it a new life as a shell under jackets. It can also be worn sleeveless in spring, I'll bet.

I love your clever use of the black and white dress with the new booties -- very swish. Using a topper made the dress wearable in cooler temps.

And your tall boots!! Swoon!

My fave outfits here are 1, 3, 4, 5 (gosh, I love that skirt...), And 9.

I love the new pants with the jacket! I think the outfit is great as is, but I might switch out for a more refined shoe and change out the top for something crisper or with a lower neckline, as suggested above by Olive Green and Dee.

Olive Green - that's a good suggestion - I agree that on me a structured top often works better - two floaty pieces makes me feel a bit off sometimes.

Thanks Dee - I have a white cami that might be the thing. Great idea. I think the tee without the blazer looks okay but I agree a lower neck would be better with the blazer.

Kelly - I think somehow that longer line that a dress gives really works on me. I need to create that long line with separates as well.....

Helena - I agree, a button down might be just the thing - I don't have one now but it would be useful for work too if I get the right one.

Thanks Angie - what a good boost for me! I like a range of looks - I need the simple ones for FFBO for work and the sorts of meetings I have with engineers etc but I want to lean into fun and boldness too...

Suz - going to try the below combination. I agree other shoes could be better but I will stick with these for this time as we are likely to be walking to the restaurant in a hilly small town.... in summer I have my yellow mules that would be perfect or my gold sandals. I have had fun with clothing this month - nothing like a few new additions to add some spark.

Below combo is what I think I will wear - I could try the cream jacket as well - it's in the holding zone but it's easy to get and could be better. I would need to wear my wool coat to walk there but that's okay!!

Love the suit, the long brown boots with the dresses and skirts, the graphic dress look and, really, all of these are terrific. I also love the new patterned pants. I might use a less structured bag with the blazer on top since the pants so it doesn't look all business on top.

I have a metallic clutch that might work better as you say. It won't be a dressy night out (Waiheke Island for those who know NZ - more upmarket casual resort)

Thanks Bijou! I was delighted to find these boots. They can cope with some walking but are hit as practical as most of my footwear. But it’s fun to have statement boots.

Wow, nr 1 is the best of all work outfits in the world! Love the white blocks there sooo much!:-) All others are great, too--and is always so useful to see others' dressy outfits (and for what kind of different events were then worn), too! Thanx for sharing!

It’s been a pretty good autumn here as well (although looking a lot cooler over the next few days!).

A lovely range of outfits, as Kellygirl mentions there is a consistency to your style which comes through even with the different silhouettes/colours. Especially like the patterns of the dress and top in 4 and the pants are awesome. Can imagine them fitting the Waiheke vibe!

Thanks Lyn - yes I think the reality of work dressing is that compromises are made. Maybe not the right bag for the outfit, maybe the shoes are not perfect, maybe everything is in the wash, maybe you got ready at 645am....

Haha Rachel - yes I am planning to take them to Waiheke - either for a Friday dinner (first plan) or maybe a Saturday lunch (those are our two meals out). Aside from that will be walking along with plenty of talking.......

Good pun Carla! Choice of pattern is a funny thing isn't it - the ones I like and the ones I don't.....I am drawn to larger scale pattern- I think it works better on me than ditsy pattern.
