WIW and WIcouldW--Leopard and Coral

In my ongoing quest to figure out maternity wear, I hit up the sales big time last weekend and these are some of the things I came home with.
(1) First up is this colorful leopard top (and the blessing of H&M maternity leggings). I think this blouse is one of those things that is just going to look better in motion than in a photo. I know it looks kind of wide and shapeless here. The other problem is I don’t really have good shoes for an outfit like this. I tried on some heeled sandals, but then I just felt too 80’s fabulous and just missing the big hair.
(2) The second outfit was an at home experiment, but I don’t think it looks quite right. Thoughts? The blazer is new as well, and the cuffs need to be shortened. They are folded up in the photo. This blazer made me feel so great! But it's not photographing that well
(3) I also got this orange top with a built in necklace. Angie had a blog post about that last year or so. I realize it won’t last forever because of that, but it doesn’t have to! The first orange top shot is just to show the top.
(4) This photo is how I actually wore the orange top (minus the jacket most of the time). I am still a little like a fish out of water dressing this new body, so I really appreciate your input. The gray jeans are new too. They still close first thing in the morning! By dinner time I tear them off.

I have to say that it is really interesting how my shopping habits have had to change and how I have to think a lot harder about what I buy. I think at the end of this I will be a better fashionista.

Love the orange top and the ways you are wearing it! The first top is fine, but doesn't make me say wow. Having said that, I like it better with the sandals.

- I like your leopard print top (both layered and on its own), and think the flat sandals look lovely here. Also: the weather in Germany seems much better than over here;-)
- Love the blazer and ankle boots in outfit 2. I don't see anything off, really. Perhaps the other ladies can be more helpful here. ETA: perhaps it's just the sleeves that are throwing you off, Scarlet?
- The orange top is fantastic!
- I also love this top with your grey jeans and blazer. Plus, it's fun how the shoes pick up the gold shade of the "necklace."

I think you are doing terrific, Scarlet, and I'm really enjoying reading more about your thought process in your recent threads. Thanks for sharing this with us.

I like both tops, especially the orange one. The print top might need a long necklace with it just to punch it up a little with the boots. With the sandals maybe just a belt? Looks great. Once the sleeves on the jacket are shortened I think it will look really nice.

Scarlet, I like both of these, though I think the slightly narrower straps on the orange top are a bit more flattering. You are a lovely mom-to-be!

I really love both tops and I think the new jacket is fab! Somehow I would think that a scarf of some sort (some pattern mixing perhaps, she slyly suggests....) might Scarlet-ify that second outfit? But it's fab on its own too.

I love both tops, Scarlet. The orange one is super striking and fun. I love it both ways you have styled it. The print top looks fab too. I think it looks great as a summer tunic in 1 and with the jacket in 2. The only thing you might try is to lighten up the footwear or wear a longer boot? I've been finding my black footwear to feel kind of heavy for summer. You are looking as gorgeous as ever!

Scarlet, you are looking SO great! I'm so glad you're posting. I think these are all fab. What about the ballet flats from #4 swapped for the sandals in #1? I can't see the colors well enough to see if it would work. You look so much better than I ever did when I was pregnant. I'm glad that the weather is cooperating to let you wear jackets. They look fab on you.

The colorful leopard top is fun! #1 looks like a great summer outfit. I think it might also look good with the gray jeans and flats that you have on in #4.

#2 - The blazer looks good. Black clothing is so hard to photograph, if you feel good in it, then it must be a keeper. Try scrunching the sleeves and adding a little bolder jewelry. I'm just not sure about the length of the leggings with the boots. I'll let more experienced fashionistas chime in on that detail. : )

#3 - Looks like another great summer outfit to me.

#4 - Works well for the office.

Kudos to little baby for helping you to think through your purchases! You're doing great!

You don't look like a fish out of water. I think you look great. Funny that you have the most hesitation about outfit 2. It is my favorite. And as for outfit #1, you should come join me in reveling in the 80s. Wink.

Scarlet dressing when newly pregnant is a challenge:) But you look fantastic here. I like both tops and think #1 will be a very useful top for your. During pregnancy, comfort defintely becomes a major consideration and this top not only looks great but I imagine it will be so easy to wear. #2 is very cool. And #3 and #4 look amazing. You are creating a great maternity capsule.

I think these outfits are great and really like the blazer. I like the idea of scarfs to add some pattern and color to maternity outfits. Buying maternity clothes can be tricky. There's no need to worry about classic pieces that you can wear forever but at the same time you want stuff that can be easily mixed and matched so you don't spend too much money on clothes that you can only wear for 9 months.

I think you found some great tops to work with. I like 1, (and as you grow it will drape even better), 2 could also use a shorter topper (did you get that cropped gray denim?) and/or hike the leggings to shorter length with the booties. I really like the orange and think it looks smashing in outfit 4.

Thanks a lot for all the feedback. Something I realized from the comments it that I think the orange blouse is a little easier to love because it is a little slimmer at the torso before flaring out. Interesting.

Meredith, I am interested by the idea of a long necklace. The top feels kind of busy to me, so I hadn’t thought of that, but a long ropey metal necklace might be cool and help with the shape.

Jonesy, I thought you would see the boxy leopard love Pattern mixing! Now there is a challenge because the color palette of this top is unusual for me. I am going to have to ponder on that one if I have something that would work or maybe could find something cheaply. A fun challenge to be sure.

Kellygirl, yes, the heaviness of the black footwear is one of the things that is bugging me. I can do it for fall or spring, but in summer it feels kind of wrong.

Sara, yes, it is an interesting mix of having to think through purchases that they will all play nicely together, but at the same time one is free to just try things because it’s only for a limited time.

Jjsloane, I think you all talked me into that grey denim topper. I will try to pick it up this weekend.

To those who commented on the legging length in 2, I was uncertain about this as well. I think normally I would wear them to the ankle with these boots, leaving a sliver of skin at the bottom, but due to the warmth I decided to try them shorter. I don’t think it looks bad in terms of leg-shortening or something, but is definitely new to my eye, so I have to think on it. It’s good to hear that some of you enjoyed the combo.
