Pics 1-2 Outfit for an evening with very dear longtime friends. Slightly oversized marbled jacket, Anthro silky tee, roomy jeans, and western boots. Added a scarf for warmth walking to and from the car.

I had time to kill at a mall near my friends that has a Nordstrom so I cruised through. I tried on these brown Frame trousers which are on sale and fit well — I’m a sucker for a good slit-hem trouser. I like the color too. I brought them home for a trial styling session, but I wonder if they’re a little heavy (of course that would not be something apparent in a photo) and maybe a bit more fitted and not as relaxed as I’m preferring these days. If I lose a few pounds (carrying a few extra at the moment) they would fit easier. They are stretchy, but I don’t know if I want that fitted look so much. Any thoughts on the look of them?

Adore the outfit in #1 and #2. Hair looks especially good. The whole look is very modern looking.

Not sure about the trousers. They look a little long, though the silouhette is good. Perhaps a styling session?

Bootcuts, flares, split hems were all made for you Janet. I love the look, the feel and your feelings are what matters though. First outfit is fantastic. Hair is giving Chrissie Hynde in the best way - if it hasn't already been said (or even if it has).

Photo 1-2 -you look wonderful. I love the jeans especially and wonder if that is negatively skewing my view of the brown pants. If they feel snug, and stretchy, are they ponte? As Carla says, maybe too long? Of course that depends on shoe or boot choice. I’m not sure I like the horizontal creases across the front crotch line. That makes the waist look too long in front? I don’t know if I can put my finger on it exactly but IMO, either try a size larger, or … pass. Sorry if too brutal.

I really like the pants you are considering, too. Amazing on you. But the photo does not tell much about the fabric weight, and they may indeed be a bit snug. Did you do a sit test in them?

They are very stretchy and definitely pass a sit test — they’re not ponte but something with a bit more body (I need to check fabrication tag). A size up will likely not make a big difference in this kind of fabrication — this is how they’re intended to fit, I’m pretty sure. I get those horizontal lines in 90% of my fitted pants and jeans!

I also love the length. I’m wearing a low-heeled boot here, which is probably what I’d wear with this kind of pant. The hem falls just shy of the floor in the back, which is what I prefer — I do not care for the feel of the shorter full-length style on me (too many traumatic flood pant comments as a young girl!).

However, I’m reminding myself that one of my big new things is “ease.” Even paired with less fitted or even oversized tops, I think I’d prefer to add pants that fall into an easier vibe than these, at this point in my style evolution. I’m taking a cue from how much I’m enjoying those looser wide-leg jeans. I’ll probably give these a little try on here at home, but most likely they’ll go back.

I'm with you on not feeling the snug pants these days. Funny how that changes over time. I wouldn't have thought a thing of it a few years ago. Anyway, the brown pants look great but if you wouldn't reach for them then I'd say return.

Love the first outfit, that jacket is gorgeous, perfect with the flared jeans.

Love your outfit! The pants look amazing on you. But since you gave us the disclaimer about enjoying a more relaxed fit nowadays, I am going to point the obvious and say that these are not relaxed or don't have any ease. So I say pass.

Your first outfit is very Janet with cool edgy styling. The other pants have a different vibe, more fitted but still edgy with the slit openings. I guess it depends on how you’d be styling them, they could have a place for somewhat more dressier occasions by adding a little sass to an outfit.

I love split hem pants, and these look perfect for you. The fit is really good, just have to decide if being constantly conscious of the fit is going to cause you not to reach for them. I foresee awesome outfits....

Thanks, all! I’ll give them a quick try on and mini style sesh before returning, but I’m inclined to go with my gut that says there is a better option out there with more ease.

The fabric is actually a very sturdy cotton with 4% elastane for a lot of stretch!
