WIW and WIB - advice please...

I am seeking the advice of this lovely community.

I am looking to step a bit outside of my comfort zone and to dress with more style. Photos 1 and 2 are my comfort zone. I bought the items in Photos 3, 4, 5 and 6 at Aritzia (two bottoms and two jackets). I like them but they are voluminous. My husband thinks the sleeves on the jacket in Photo 3 are too long. The (super, helpful) staff at Aritzia said it looked good.

I am a bit lost syle-wise. I have purchased many articles of clothing in the last several years that end up in the donation bin because I wear them several times before deciding they are not me.

(I intend to hem both pairs of pants.)

Hi again Nadine! I like your “comfort zone” outfits, they look warm and cosy and approachable. The new pants look great although too long as you say, should be great when hemmed. I love the second jacket in 5/6, I find the sleeves on the first jacket a bit too long personally. The final outfit looks extremely stylish to my eye!

Nadine, you had a fun shopping trip, the items look good on you. Yes, the pants need to be hemmed, but not too short. The jackets look like they can serve two purposes; the first being slightly more casual then the second.
The sleeves of the first jacket do look a little long as Jeni mentioned but if you had a warm layer under, would it shorten the length? To keep it as versatile as possible did you try turning the sleeves up with an intentional turn? Taking some of the bulk out with a turn up might make a big difference.

I like your new pieces - fresh, modern and a bit different. The sleeves could be cuffed or just left to be as they are - love new jeans and pants!

Jenni NZ the sweater in # 1 is from LLBean, and I agree, so warm and cozy. I love wearing it.

Joyce you are right that I need to play with the long sleeves to see if I can make the jacket work, because I do like it. Good suggestions!

Your comfort zone outfits look good to me, but I do really like your new pieces. Maybe try a big cuff on your long jeans until you get them hemmed (as in Angie's recent denim post). The first jacket looks very current - I would try scrunching up the sleeves, which I do most of the time anyway. The second jacket looks excellent on you. Great picks!

I really like the first jacket but I would take it to the tailor and have the sleeves shortened. I have short arms and I am always very happy when I take the trouble to do that alteration. Everything else looks great as-is!

I think all of the new pieces are good for you , and on you, and I'd just make a few tweaks. In the first outfit , I'd wear either the jeans or the jacket, but not together , if that makes sense. Too much volume on volume. The jacket sleeves don't bother me at that length but I think the jacket would work better with a shorter pant. I don't think the jeans are too long either - that length is really popular with the Aritizia set (i.e. the young women who work there) but of course it has to feel ok to you. I personally like longer pants right now. I like the last outfit too - with the dark pants and the DB jacket.

The sleeves look a little long on the first jacket. The jeans length is modern. I have long vintage Levi's 501s a similar length and width, and plan to wear them as is in Spring, probably with a more substantial sneaker to balance out the volume and length, IE not a low profile sneaker or an oversized trainer, something in-between. I love the last jacket the most, looks modern but still a bit classic. Looks very good.

I like your comfort zone outfits, they look simple and polished. My favorite outfit with the new items is #6. The jacket is well streamlined and the pants fit you well. Sorry but I am not a fan of the jacket in # 3. To elevate the overall style, I suggest to try pretty booties or moccasins or oxfords.

I like your comfort zone outfits - nice and easy fall backs. I also like the new pieces. I agree the sleeves seem a little long on the first but a small roll up might do the trick. I would also hem the pants. I had jeans about that length and just didn't feel fabulous in them. I finally chopped them off to about my ankle and like them much better. Also have you experimented with different shoes? I like the sneakers but I also think they would look good with some loafers or mary janes.

I like your new Aritzia pieces! They suit you and look refreshed

I like the length of the new jeans in #3 to #5! They look hip, and aren’t dragging on the ground, by the looks of it. But if they are in person, hem them so that they skim the surface of the ground. Keep them LONG. Same goes for the pants in #6. They look good in the pics, although may be a tripping hazard in person. Make sure they cover the heels of your shoes when you hem them. Fab updated proportions!

The sleeves of the first jacket look a bit long. Not too bad, though! Try cuffing them once to see if that works. Personally, I can’t wear too long sleeves. They get in the way of my life. That said, others seem to function well with sleeves that length. You choose.

I can’t see the fit of the jacket in #6 properly, although I like what I can see!

I also have a style like 1 and 2--classic and comfortable, though I get fun stuff, too. The sleeves in 3--it does seem that that length is popular. It would be too long for me, and I would roll it to show my wrists. So, personal preference.

Did they suggest the items you bought at Aritzia? Sometimes when people don't know your style, they just show you what is trendy. I myself do not like voluminous jeans unless they remind me of something from the past, like a TLC video.

Jaime I am going to play around with the sleeves as you suggested. I am not ready to give up on the jacket yet!

MsMary You seem to be on the same page as many that that the sleeves are too long. Tailoring might be the way to go.

LJP Thanks for pointing out that the jacket and pants might not work well together. I thought they did but will look at that again with your comment in mind. I am kinda wanting the longer pants but concerned they make my legs look short, which I am always conscious about.

RobinF I think that like you, I am not going to feel fabulous at that length. And I wondered about the shoes myself.

Angie It's nice to be here more actively! I'll make sure to keep enough length with the pants. I am tickled with the updated proportions too. It's what I was aiming for even though it's with some trepidation.

Star (Lise) I think you're right about the footwear. Others have made the same comment! I'll go hunting for shoes now...

Carol Interesting! You pinpointed two words that I use to inspire/define my style, classic and comfortable. To answer your question, I picked those items myself but was for sure encouraged by the staff. I can see what you mean though about preferring less voluminous bottoms. That's where I live too, but also aching to branch out.

I like the new jackets and bottoms, they are still the same casual and comfy vibe as the comfort zone outfits, but updated with a little more volume. Excellent finds!

I really like your comfort outfits. The new pieces you bought are fabulous. I would roll the sleeves on the first jacket or have them hemmed. Having them hemmed would keep the look more classic. IMHO
