WIW and to hem or not—new pic

A casual Thursday WIW. Broke out the cream oxfords. Mr. KG isn’t very fond of these—perhaps too high contrast with the dark jeans but I like them with the cream belt.

The maxi is a Karen Kane from several years ago. It’s the only maxi I have and likely the last. I’m debating on hemming to midi length. I like the drama of the long length but it’s not for everyday. WWYD?

I like your jeans outfit.

I think I would hem it a little but may be not to a full midi. It looks a lovely dress. But I would be wary shortening a maxi because it can alter proportions. It’s definitely worth seeing what it might be like by pinning though I would think.

You look great! FWIW, I have a very similar dress. It was a maxi, but I had a few inches taken off, so it comes just a bit above my ankles. I find I wear it more often than I did when it was full length.

The maxi looks gorgeous and dramatic indeed. I would just make it short enough to wear with flats, so you can use it. But not to midi, there’s so many of those around this summer you can find a new one if that’s what you want.

Aren’t oxfords fun! I am also playing with a white pair this summer.

I just shortened a black maxi to midi length, and I'm getting much more wear out of it. If you're not wearing it as is, I'd say to go for a full chop on it.

I like the light shoes! I agree with the others that it might be more wearable at just above the ankle, it would have a more casual vibe.

Fun shoes! I like how they pick up the light color in the print of the top.

Personally, I like an “almost maxi” length, a couple inches above the ankle. I find that it has all the swish and elegance of a maxi, but is super practical for everyday. (Plus, I am short and often *feel* a bit dragged-down in true maxis) I vote chop slightly!

Lovely jeans outfit. About the dress, it is really beautiful on you but maybe for evening. If you want to wear it more I agree with others, just pinning and see what is good length for you .

I've never had a maxi, but I'll be watching with interest to see what you end up doing. I think I remember you're petite, about my height? Most maxis are so long I'd have to have a foot taken off to make them short enough, but I've avoided them mainly because they aren't very practical for my day to day life.

Tell Mr. KG that your YLF peeps like those shoes! The dress might be kind of fun as a high/low but the alteration would probably be more trouble than it’s worth.

Jeans outfit looks great and I would def. hem the maxi so you can wear that dress a lot since it looks like it fits you so well!

Thanks, Fabbers! I didn't think about above the ankle length but that is a great idea. That would help preserve the maxi vibe! I'm going to pin it and see how it looks. I knew I could count on the collective YLF mind for help!

The dress is lovely on you but, if you have enough in your formal wear capsule, you should shorten this one to get more wear out of it. Maxi dresses look odd for work. I was just thinking of the hospital style I saw this past week. Women who were not in scrubs mostly wore thigh to knee length dresses and skirts or nice fitting slim trousers in a dark color ( no jeans, leggings or gear). One woman who just started a job at the surgery desk wore a maxi dress. She was tall and looked good but not professional and seemed to be rejected by the staff. She did not look like she fit in. Just observations from someone who had not much to do but sit and wait.

I agree about ankle length! This is starting to be my preference for long dresses. I think Angie would say it adds a bit of structure? I hope it works out.

Thanks, Angie! I was guessing you would prefer midi length! I pinned it up to get an idea and I think it will be much better than floor grazing!

I like the idea of a couple of inches above ankle. I just did this with a long dress and I think I will wear it more.

It’s finally back from alterations and I’m very pleased. Thanks for chiming in on length. This is way more wearable now! I had them error on the longer side but I like it.

It’s amazing the difference a few inches makes. I loved it long for dressy but I like it at this more casual length also. Time for it to be worn and earn it’s keep.

So nice - great decision and fab results. This dress is now perfect and you look perfect in it. Love it with the green jacket, too.
