WIW and Proportions Question

Our temperatures are in the 50s today and this is what I’m wearing. I feel very comfortable in it. My question is on the length of the blazer. It’s one of Angie’s picks: the Olivia Moon, navy with white pindots (I think Thistle might have this one too). Is it too short to wear as shown? Do I need a longer tunic-type top to extend below the blazer (like Diana’s “light neutrals” recent post)? The second image is for the slightly warmer afternoon, sans blazer. The last photo is of my White Mountain “Icon” booties, I think somebody in the forum was looking for something similar, can’t recall who.

I’m challenging myself to post a WIW at least once a week.

Suggestions for improvement welcome and thanks for reading.

I love the colors and textures in these outfits. Yellow and gray is one of my favorite combinations.

Yes, unfortunately I do think the blazer looks slightly too short. The vest, which appears to be about the same length, looks fine. I cannot find Diana's post now, so cannot comment on whether a longer top worn under the blazer would help.

The booties are fabulous. I want them!

Well, I just found Diana's post. The longer top worn under the short blazer helps. Why not try that and see if it works for you.

I am useless because I am in love. Love the colours of your scarf, love your booties, love your cute expression, and yes, love the whole outfit!

Here is my take for what it's worth. This proportion looks fine on you. It would not necessarily work on everyone, but it works with your slender body type and it works because you have, essentially, a column of colour here. (It might look less good with higher contrast, but I can't be sure). And it works because it's all slim. (It might also work with a bootcut but I'm not sure.)

It actually looks a tiny bit "shrunken." And while that is not the most current look, it's not a dated look. I think it would work with a longer top as well, if you would like to try it.

I admit that I might not be the best person to judge of this. As someone who hesitates to wear longer jackets due to my shorter leg line, I actually like them when they are a bit on the short side. And because I am a relatively slender rectangle/ hourglass, I think it works okay on me.

I think it looks like an intentional shrunken fit. You look gorgeous and I would copy this in a hot minute!

I think it looks fabulous as in YLF. I am usually very picky about proportions and either I am not seeing it right or the jacket length is very flattering on you. I am going with flattering.

@catnip - thanks for taking the time and checking Diana's take on the blazer and longer top. Your comments is exactly what I was feeling... *just* a bit on the short side and maybe a bit dated as well, even though the blazer is a recent (July) purchase.

@Suz - thanks for the detailed observations, I respect your vast knowledge and love your style. I have to be careful with longer jackets as well, some end up looking "manly" on me, not what I'm after. This jacket is a regular size, not a petite - I wonder why they are making them shortish. I'll remember the column of color. I'll also try it with a longer, lighter top and see how it looks.

I think the blazer length is great for you. I wore a longer top under mine today not because of the jacket itself but because of the skinnies. I am a pear so I like a little longer top to balance my hips in skinnies, but you don't have my big hips so you don't need to camouflage them!

This outfit would not look good on me but it totally works for you. I am with Suz ; you slim body can pull it off especially with a column of color under the blazer.
However what really made me to open this thread was the scarf. OMG, how I love those fresh colors on you! You are like a breath of spring in the middle of the winter!

Proportions are super difficult for me, too. The best thing has been looking at photos of myself -- and of others with similar body type modifiers in the relevant area. So, for me, looking at somebody with super long legs or gorgeous curves can help inspire colour choices but probably won't be helpful when it comes to proportions.

As many of us have commented before, this is one reason it is so challenging to buy online. The models are all much taller than many of us, and usually much slimmer as well. The dress that is a mini on them might be regular length on us. The jacket that looks just right on them might be far too long on us. The top that just looks bleah on them might look great on a curvier woman. And so on. And the scale of everything is off as well. CocoLion did a great post showing the relative scale of some fashion backpacks recently -- comparing how it looked on the model to how it looked on her 5'3" self. Fascinating.

I absolutely love the jacket on you! With the dark wash jeans, it looks like an improvised, slightly cheeky suit. Proportions are perfect, I think. As a curvy shape at 5'6", I have huge issues with very, and I mean, very short jackets. I have an Olivia Moon from last year that is shorter on me than yours. That might have something to do with my bosom and hips occupying a certain amount of real estate!

The shoes are casual, but still rich and chic, and I think the layering in #2 is fun and flattering.
