WIW and Not Sure on this new haircut

Basic formula again today, all pieces you have seen before! Added a necklace from DH as it is Valentine's Day and I wanted something to think of him.

Overall, I am not sure my new haircut is all that flattering. It looked great when the stylist did it, but not so sure about it when I am fixing it.

I think your outfit is very flattering! The patterned wrap top looks good with the simple pants. Your hair looks nice to me but I have the same problems sometimes where it looks better when the stylist does it. Now I usually ask my stylist what's she's doing when she styles it and what kind of products she's using/recommends.

You are rocking all those wrap tops and dresses! Your stylist should be teaching you how to style your cut... I agree that it's never 100% the same (at least for me, especially since I'm not used to the effort), but hopefully you can get it so you like it. I still think you look great, regardless.

I agree a good stylist tells you what they are doing, if not you should ask detailed questions down to how they hold things and if that matters....

So, she does a full blow out and then styles it. This keeps it extra straight. I bought the product she used on it, and I like it well enough, but I am not doing a full blow out.

For me, I wash it at night (I have really bad allergies, and I shower at night to get everything off so I don't track allergens into bed). It is dry (well, mostly, I have a LOT of hair), and then i flat iron it.

Just looking at pictures from when she did it and now, it doesn't look the same to me.

As for the hair, it looks great. But, I know from experience that nobody can do a blowout better than a hairdresser. And flat ironing gives quite a different effect from a blowout.

Your wrap is terrific, as usual. Thistle, your hair looks really nice, although I can certainly relate to the feeling that it is just "off". Maybe better flat iron?

As for the hair, I always tease my stylist and ask if I can pop in on my way to work for him to style it 'cause it always looks better! I think your hair looks gorgeous FWIW.

You could use a little more body at the roots. Perhaps spritzing your hair with a bit of water in the morning, then blowdrying with a large round brush at the crown for some lift. What sort of product do you use?

I'd love to see you with even more layers, like this:

ETA: If you ever need a stylist recommendation, my SIL works at a downtown Milwaukee Aveda salon. She's great with color, too. She's a mom to two young boys and actually has super short hair, so she understands the need to have a low-maintenance style.

I love the wrap dress. I know what you mean about stylist hair that is why they are professionals! FWIW, I think my hair and yours have perhaps similar fine structure having a tendency to be a bit "flat" sometimes. This may sound silly... but when you flat iron instead to standing upright in the mirror and pulling down thereby flattening the crown, try putting your head upside down to add some fluff at the root. Might help?

Ya, seriously rocking this look!

I am having the same problem with my hair cut. I think Anne is right re. body at the crown. My problem is making corkscrew curls. I don't think safe, organic mousse is gonna do it nor the round brushes I have left over from the last time I was doing curls. I'm tempted to tie my hair up in rag curls at night.

Love the wrap dresses and tops on you; you look great. And your hair is very pretty - very full and healthy. Have you considered a fringe or a side-swept fringe? I think it would highlight your eyes, but it tends to be something people either really like or really dislike.

On the hair - I have to do a full blow out AND straighten my hair each day, so I can say that if you're not doing the full blow out and only using the straightener, that is probably what is causing the disconnect between what it looks like and what it looked like when you left the salon. The blow out creates the volume at the roots and the straightener makes everything smooth and shiny. I am actually wondering if you even need the straightener. If you're washing your hair at night and letting it dry on its own, you aren't using the heat of the blow dryer to create volume so your hair has its own volume, especially because it is thick (you say you have a lot of it). Using a straightener on hair that has little to no product that also hasn't been blowdried will just straighten the hair and it may look more flat or straight. If you just left it natural, would it have more voume?

I would suggest speaking to your stylist about it the next time you see her. Explain to her that it's just not possible to do it the way she does and ask if she has suggestions. Maybe she doesn't realize that you do it differently from the way she is styling it.

Krista that could be the issue. I use the special protecting spray oil that the salon used and straighten it. I have lots of hair, but each strand is baby fine, so it is really easy to weight it down. It also likes to stand on end when I take my hat off!

Wrap styles are perfect for you. Krista suggestion sounds good to me - ask your stylist how to style at home.
