WIW and K/R - Jeans looks - Decision made - Update.

Hi all

The first two looks are jeans looks worn for casual meals out.

1) Flares with black sandals and a knit top, I liked it but think the knit top has lost shape and is now a layering piece only. Is it too short?

2). Worn tonight for sons 16th - aah! I am a bit over this top too. I have been wearing these jeans uncuffed and long with a heel - last year I mostly cuffed them.

3-5). New blazer - on sale - but returnable. Styled in two ways, I purchased it online and wonder about the colour - and the fit? I want a versatile jacket to wear with jeans and cropped pants. Is this it? My other jackets are cream, black and pink (bright) as well as two kimonos and two leather jackets. This was sold as Duck Egg Blue but is almost a warm grey. Brand is Witchery.

6). New boots -ink blue on heavy discount - perfect heel for me. I love them and they are not returnable!! Brand is Django and Juliette and they are the Bonnie. They are lovely leather and will be a great work and evening boot for me.

I welcome your comments re the first two looks and whether the jacket is a keeper!!

ETA I am trying to be a flamboyant natural with sporty, relaxed, long lines and elegant as my aspirations.

Hi Sally, you look great! I like both tops actually but especially top 2, I'm sorry you're getting sick of it. The jacket looks good to me, it is too formal for my own style. And the boots should be great, I now own 4 pairs of Django and Juliette shoes. I bought the first pair in Australia in 2011 but the others here, Mischief shoes is my go-to.

I don’t think #1 is too short. I like the jacket and I definitely love your hair & the new boots.

You look great. Personally I think the first top isn’t too short as such, but just would look more interesting with a little jacket over the top OR a statement necklace. The second outfit I love! The third outfit, the blazer with white underlay looks quite good too. For some reason I don’t like it with the black top under... but maybe a black crew neck tee would work better? I think the fit is good, you could try a size down and it may fit even better across the chest but I don’t think it would give you enough movement across the back then. The shoes are great- I also am a big fan of Django and Juliet.
I definitely see sporty-relaxed and elegant here, and the jeans and tall boots give long lines

Lovely outfits as always! I do not see anything wrong with top #1 but of course all depends upon your personal taste. Top # 2 looks fab on you. I like the jacket, color and shape, but I see it a bit too bulky in the shoulders ... The booties are fab!

I think you look great! I really like both your tops, although I would probably add a scarf or piece of jewelry. I agree that the shoulders on the white jacket look a bit big, but the color and style of the jacket are wonderful. Great find on the boots!

* Love the boots. Score!
* Love the jacket. But I cannot be objective because it is a similar style to my khaki one from Witchery, which I love. Although I have only worn mine a couple of times, because it’s too darn hot! I think it’s perfect for teaming with jeans. I also like the colour on you. How do you feel about it? If you are unsure, I think ink blue would also be a good colour for you. I think this style is becoming a staple for them so other colours may come.
*The second outfit looks great to me. The top really suits you.
*I don’t think the knit top is too short but I know that when they lose shape they can feel less than fab. If you are not happy with it, you definitely could layer over it or otherwise retire it to loungewear. Love the flares.

I like the first outfit! The sunnies add some glamour. Not sure what I’d do for accessorizing. I see @jussie suggests adding a few things, while my eye seems to like the simplicity of it and would not add anything except maybe a bag. But I am bad at accessorizing!

Blazer looks fab, to my eye! I really like the colour. Looks good how you’ve styled it with jeans.

Great booties! They will be very useful ai’m sure.

I like the jeans look with the black tank. The second top is a good color on you but I am not loving the shape. As for the jacket, there is something about the top part of it that is either bulky or lacks drape that gives me pause. The color suits you, though.

I really like the black tank + dark jeans. Tank doesn't look too short to me, and seems like a solid layering piece if you're not happy wearing it on its own. If you wanted to add something more, I bet the necklace from #2 would look great here.

I always find tunic-y tops like the one in #2 difficult to style. I wonder how it looks over a skirt? Sometimes you can get a nice columnar dress-like effect if you layer a longer top over a skirt (or even over a simple dress).

I'm not sold on the jacket, only because the shoulders look a bit poofy to me and I'm not sure they hang quite right. The colour looks great on you and quite versatile.

Sally, I think you look great ... The first two outfits are perfect casual looks; love the necklace in the second one. I like the jacket and think it might be useful for adding the flamboyant touch to your sporty natural look.

Lovely jean WIWs. I'm not sold on the jacket. It looks too big in the shoulders. I'm personally not a fan of the double-breasted buttons, but it does fit the flamboyant part of your style descriptors.

I like both your jean WIW's although I understand how knit tops can lose shape over time. It's not obvious in the photo but may be more noticeable to you in real life. I like the color of the jacket but are the shoulders too big? It's hard to assess fit through a photo when you can't see the full 3D view. Great boots!

Love your jeans and those boots! I'm not sure on the blazer - for me, it's probably the buttons though because I'm really into the minimal blazer look right now with no buttons (meant to only be worn open).

Try the first black tank with a skirt. It's a great length for a skirt.

LOVING the jacket. Killer, and what a pretty shade of blue. On trend with its modern '80s vibe. The blue boots are divine and suit you to a tee.

Love the boots - what a great score. I'm unsure about the jacket - to be honest. I like the idea of it, but there is something about it I can't put my finger on - might be a tad too big in the upper body, as Ummlila suggested ?

I would have said exactly what Angie did -- wear that first top with skirts! Or high waist culottes.

The second top looks nice on you but I suspect you are just tired of it. That happens!

Thanks for the great feedback. I will reply to everyone as I am under the pump with work this week!!

I agree a topper with one could solve my problem and I usually wear this top with a skirt or shorts. I will examine it and see what I think about it in the cold light of day.

And maybe 2 is a top that could be consigned - it is good condition and a good NZ label - but I am a bit sick of it (it opens at the back and is hard to layer over so is very limited in how it can be worn). I do still wear it but probably only three times a season - it is not versatile enough to be an essential nor interesting enough to be a statement. I guess a completer but not the most useful one.

The jacket I am on the fence with - which often can mean it is a "no"for me. It is $200 which is a good price for a lovely quality jacket but not insignificant in cost. I will only add one blazer or jacket this winter so I need to decide if this is it.

Pros:
- light almost neutral which is needed in my winter wardrobe. It is quite warm in tone which makes it work.
- lovely weight and construction- I like the fabric quality too.
- a colour that will work with denim, black, cream, camel, cognac nicely. I have three pairs of jeans and a pair of pants it would be great with. I can't see it with a dress or skirt.
- I could wear this March to November in terms of weight... and it is a different style to anything I currently own.

Cons:
- I don't wear a lot of these greyish/muted tones - so it is an adjustment
- I often find with sizing I am between sizes - this is NZ14 which is the larger of my two sizes. It was not available in a NZ12 - but I suspect that could be too constricting in the shoulders. I think I am short between the bust and shoulder line and can often have a bit too much length in jackets here, yet I need room at the bust and shoulders.
- I am not sure about the buttons - but this is an alteration that I am able to do myself. I do like them but they are a bit more glitzy than I usually wear.

I will try it again over the weekend and make a call then. It is early in the season (suspect this was left over from spring). I wonder if it is the same style as yours or not Brooklyn?

Haha Brooklyn we cross posted...yes that is the look I want for work or the odd casual meal out.

I need to just consider the fit carefully - I think my short waist can make jackets a more difficult fit, and that 14s are often too big and 12s too tight in one point (usually calves and shoulders!!)

Sally, here is the photo I have of mine - which is with a dress. But I plan to wear it mostly with jeans. I think because it is double breasted it can look a little boxy. But that’s the style. I like my glitzy buttons

LisaP - I know, never pick a celebrity as a role model. I remember feeling so "let down" when Ben Johnson was found to be a drugs cheat after supporting him over Carl Lewis (who was also one, as were most of them I think).... And also feeling sad when Tom and Nicole split up.... crazy stuff isn't it!

Those booties are fab, and so is the jacket, but if you are not convinced, it might be better to return and look for another one you might love more.

I love outfit 2...great proportions, and your legs look really long!

For the blazer, I would double-check that the shoulders fit properly. They look a little big, but it could be the camera angle. Do you think that the blazer is too formal for your style descriptors?

Gigi- I will try on again after a couple of days on a hangar and see. I think there is some extra room in the shoulders width - I am long legged and short waisted which has some tricks for fittting garments.

I am keeping the blazer. I tried it on again and I think the fit is good- there is a little room in the shoulders but not excessive- and done up it fits well . It is a slight boxy shape but I think that is the design as Brooklyn said earlier. The colour while lighter than I expected is a really nice addition for my cooler season - it is a perfect autumn, winter, spring weight and lovely with navy, cream, black, camels and cognacs and denim. It will be worn for work to smarten up jeans looks and sometimes with a column of black.

It's a bit more structured than my usual style but i wanted that as I have several more casual or soft jackets.
