WIW: A little preppy

I can't tell you how many pictures I took today to get a reasonable shot this morning! My hair really needs to be trimmed, and that is bugging me in every photo. This is an unplanned outfit... not sure it turned out but too late now! Old Gap flares, old Gap blazer, j. crew shirt, footwear undetermined yet.

I like it, although it really is fairly preppy for you. I can relate to your issues with your hair, the weeks before I got my recent cut I disliked almost all pics I took because my hair was bothering me so much.

I like the flash of citron. It looks very rectangular in the photo but maybe that's what you are going for.

Thanks Joy. I'm trying to figure out how to wear flares again... any suggestions? I am pretty rectangular (after IT!), so I'm not aiming for it though I don't mind it either.

I actually like this - although it is definitely more preppy than you usually wear. Love the colours in the top.

Are you kidding me? I am totally copying this at the first possible opportunity! How about the quilted booties? Or don't you have some awesome blue booties?

Mary, the quilted booties are at the shoe doctor! The heel of one started to separate from the boot part. I am on pins and needles to see if it can be fixed. I think I'm going with oxfords for now, and putting this outfit in the "preppy British schoolboy" category.

On me, this would be missing the UWP edge, but I think that your hair es edgy enough to make it work (slowly realizing Angie's wisdom re: hairstyles). I don't mind the rectangular quality - to me it feels relaxed and helps the androgyny factor along (which is also a bit edgy in itself).

ACK! WTH? Those booties are already at the cobbler? Jeez. Isn't it crazy how something you are lukewarm over or even hate will just last and last and last and last and you pray for it to die so you can get rid of it or replace it with something so much better, but when you have a beloved treasure and you coddle and protect it and fancy it to the nth degree....it ends up damaged, in need or repair or some immediate TLC. *sigh*

I have that same tee with the pink shoulders. I was worried it would HIGHLIGHT my broad shoulders in a negative way; but, lo! I was pleasantly surprised when the tee was brilliant. Go neon, shoulders, go!

I LOVE this, Una! I love preppy and I like how you've interpreted it in the UWP style. The citron stripe tee from J. Crew is completely awesome the way you have it styled. What about this outfit with some heeled oxfords?

I love the top half. I'm ambivalent about the pants...They seem sort of baggy, but not exactly slouchy, if that makes any sense?

Oh the poor quilted booties. I'll bet your oxfords looked fab with this, though. I think this turned out well, and my favorite part is the surprise splash of color at the neckline. Nice!

I also really like the top half (COOL shirt), but ambivalent on the pants. I feel like something tonally checked or microchecked would better fit the vibe you're after? I do like the idea of oxfords with this, or any nude shoe really.

I love the schoolboy blazer and top on you. Schoolboy is a great theme for you to explore. I think the problem with the pants are they are wide all the way down - I feel like a more fitted then flared jeans would work better. Not that these are terrible at all- my thoughts are offered in the spirit of fine tuning.

I like this outfit and my only suggestion would be to maybe belt the top? I think some waist definition could just make a bit of difference here.

You do preppy really, really well. Maybe this is a good "shadow style" for you. I mean, it just looks very natural on you.

There are times that I love to do preppy as well!

Una: Preppy IS edgy, particularly in a relaxed silhouette. I think this is fitting your "schoolboy" explorations nicely. Perhaps a pair of khaki-colored slouchy pants would work even better. Are there slouchy skirts available now, too? Something like Lauren Hutton would have worn in the late 70's?

Ack! I never thought of these pants as too big, just flowy.... but now I see I can grab a handful of fabric around my thighs. Dang it. I did not mind the preppy silhouette, so perhaps some slouchy tan pants would be a good substitute for these pants, which I love for the washable yet professional looking fabric.

Edgy prep it is! Like Rae said, I think your hairstyle actually imparts a lot of edge to the simplest outfits. Very eye-catching. I like this a lot, especially that pop of colour.
