I love these photos - thank you so much for sharing with us - and you look great in your denim shorts and navy top.
I bet those hummingbirds will be back - even if they've finally flown the nest. The sugar nectar in the feeder (not to mention having a fab hostess) will keep them coming back to your yard. Have you considered hanging the feeders in front of a kitchen or dining room window? I found that hummingbirds like to come to the feeders just before dark...and if you have all of your kitchen or dining room lights turned off, you can sit there and watch them. You might even be able to shine a flashlight on their breasts as they slurp up the sugar-y goodness in the feeders. This won't disturb them, and you'll be able to see some amazing shimmery-looking colours.
Hummingbirds just seem to like hanging out at feeders late in the evening, just before it gets dark. Like I said, you can sit there in your dining room, looking out the window, with the interior lights all turned off and watch them in all of their graceful and delicate beauty. It's not dark out and it's also not exactly light. This is just when they like to congregate around any feeders you might have put out. Try it some night....turn off all the lights in your dining room or kitchen or wherever you have feeders in the window. It's wonderful to watch!
By the way, the same families will keep coming back - and it's because they like your yard, and they've become accustomed to your particular sugar nectar formula. If they go somewhere else, the sugar water won't be quite right, the ambiance isn't quite the same and so on. They'll be back Those same baby hummingbirds will come back to your house year after year.
