WIW: A few recent outfits

1. I wore this on Tuesday. I like the top in theory, but not in practice. The neckline is too low, and the color looks like I’m not wearing a top at all!

2. I wore this to our local philharmonic performance. We heard the world premiere of a piece celebrating the sesquicentennial of the completion of the transcontinental railroad. I’ve never heard Morse code incorporated into music before. Amazing! My outfit felt okay, but a different jacket might have been better. The jacket and pants are thrifted.

3. I wore this for our handbell choir performance today. Our dress code is a combo of red, black and white. The pants are new. They are identical to my hiking pants. The top is an EF shark bite linen top from several years ago, and the scarf is probably thrifted. I need another white top. Suggestions welcome.

I like #1 the most-especially the floral shoes! But I understand about clothes that seem too close to skin tone
But Morse Code music sounds interesting. Just another reminder that music is a language! Drums for example, were (or maybe are still) used to share messages from far away

Lovely outfits, the pink top looks good with the bag and rest of the outfit - may be a scarf or a necklace might help to lend it a defined 'edge' between you and your skin?

Cute hand bell ringers outfit. Clever to incorporate morse code in music and a good thing to celebrate. It must have made life SO much easier.

My favorite is #2--there is something about a black/white striped tee with a denim jacket. I like the shoes & bag in #1--I find that pale color very difficult to wear as well. Practically skin color. I echo Jane's suggestion of a necklace with some color or else a scarf.

About Morse in music: the theme song for Endeavor, the TV show about young Inspector Morse, incorporates Morse code into the theme music, and ends the show with it. DH, who learned Morse as a kid and never forgot it, always taps out the letters to the music, which spells out Morse. It is haunting.

I attended a Stanford Historical Society program on the transcontinental a couple of weeks ago--very interesting. I will be in Salt Lake for a program with the railroad as a theme, but not the May 10 celebration. I hope I get a chance to hear the Morse music when I am there. If not sooner.

Suntiger, thank you. I should say that only the third movement incorporated Morse Code. The trumpets play DONE, the same as the message sent by telegraph. I learned Morse code in college and corresponded with one of my roommates in code over the summer. I don’t remember it anymore.

Jane, that’s a good idea. I’ll try that next time.

MsMaven, I didn’t realize that about Endeavour. I’ve enjoyed that show after watching Inspector Morse. I understood the character better. BTW, Stanford is going to perform this piece sometime. It’s called Transcend by Zhou Tian.

I think #1 works just fine, but agree with Jane, that maybe a scarf (with navy and pink) would bring the outfit up to a 10. Of course I'm on board with #2 and will probably copy cat! No suggestions for a white topper, but I can understand how a knit would be more conducive to playing the bells than a button down.

When my maternal grandpa died, he left a donation to the local handbell choir in his will! I have a soft spot for handbell music and 'Choir of the Bells' is my favourite Christmas song.

These all look good - I like the pink and it looks like a shirt not skin to me! Also think the denim jacket works very nicely in #2. You have a wonderfully musical life!

Jenn, thank you. I’m wearing Dansko sandal clogs in #3. They’re very similar to the picture, but the edge has a lacy cut out effect.

Carla, thank you. I’m going to try a scarf as Jane suggested. Even a bandana might work. I just love handbells. I’m a rank beginner, so I’m surprised they let me play with them. My sight reading has improved drastically!

Shevia, thank you. I’ve been going to our philharmonic with my elderly neighbor for a couple years now. I really enjoy it, and feel better that she’s not driving at night. Then add handbells and ukulele and you’re right. I had never thought about it that way.

Top in #1 looks fine, but I get it's annoying to wear. You need a new pink top that you LIKE wearing. LOVE the floral Birkies with matching bag.

You look lovely in all your outfits. I actually really like #1 with the pink top. Too bad the neckline is problematic. I recently had a peach top that was very similar to my skin tone. I didn't mind the look it but I think it was disconcerting to others.

Well you are hard on yourself, as you look really good in all of these.

Re #1 - I feel the same about some blush pinks and like a slightly more saturated colour. Adding a necklace or scarf would break up the pink and your skin tone. Definitely get another pink top because the shoes and bag are so fun for spring and summer.

Outfit #2 is really stylish such a classic pulled together yet casual combination, your shoes make this for me - they are interesting and nicely bookend your hair.

The bellringer outfit is so fun and once again you are killing it with your shoes.

Pink/blush is lovely on you. #1 outfit is SO chic, and adding a more bold necklace is one option to define the neck. Or a new pink top, as Angie and others say... All the outfits are great, though. Also, what kind of new white top are you looking for?

Windchime, thank you. I suddenly wanted pink last year, after a few years of only grey and blue. Lucky for me, pink was kind of trendy. Actually, that might be why I suddenly yearned for pink.

Fifthandfinest, thank you. The shoes in #2 are D’orsay on one side, and sort of high cut on the other. See the find below.

ChrisetlJ, thank you. For handbells, I think a step up from a basic tee is what I’m thinking of. I’m already casual wearing hiking pants ( ), so the top should be nice looking.

Nice choice indeed. Those shoes are really fab. But if you're still there can you tell me what hiking pants do you have exactly? I'm thinking about a similar outfit but will any from this list work? Thanks!
