WIW: a chartreuse sack - YouLookFab Forum

Some of you might remember that I was looking for sleeveless comfy sack dresses earlier this summer. Well, I finally found one on Amazon, and after some silly shipping snafus, it is finally mine. This one fits almost all of my requirements (although it is jersey, and I'd wanted woven. It's natural fibers and not clingy though, so I'm OK with the jersey although I think it won't last as long). Plus it matches my specs! =)

I can wear it with or without a belt. Today I've chosen to belt it quite loosely and paired it with cognac accents. The striped cardigan is actually the one I've been keeping in my bag for arctic AC, but it matched so perfectly I had to show you.

Questions:
--This dress also comes in orange (photo 4). Do you think I should duplicate?
--I'm carrying my subway map bag today. I bought this bag (very inexpensively) on impulse last year because I really wanted to try a printed bag. Although I still like the pattern, I feel like the shape is kind of bulky and disproportionate (I feel like it needs to be slouchier and longer and less wide), and I think the strap is a little short. Do you think it's time to let it go? I haven't been using it much lately. ETA:Added an old photo of the bag.

Very nice! You could not topped #2 if you planned it! If it's comfy and a good price, worth duplicating---but I would first wash this one to see how it goes.

I am no help on the bag as I rather like it as is.

I like the dress and would duplicate at a great price. I love the green with the cognac and specs. The print bag is fun, but the too short straps would be a deal breaker for me.

The green is fabulous on you and looks interesting and a bit unexpected with the cognac. Since you get a lot of hot days in a typical summer and you have a need for dresses like this, why not duplicate if you also love the orange? It's the kind of dress that would be easily retired afterwards for at home wear, I'd say.

I love the pattern on the bag. If the shape doesn't feel good, I wonder if you could preserve a part of it as a cosmetics bag or something -- just for the fun of it.

The dress is great. You could add a jacket and boots and wear this fall as well. I would go for the second color.

I love the cognac with the chartreuse, fab pairing. I can also see you in the orange version. I'm not much help on the bag either, I quite like it. If the proportions feel off to you with it now though, perhaps it's time for a replacement.

I know how hard it is to find a good dress, so I vote Yes! on the duplication question, especially because you look great in orange too.
Love the new frock on you, Diana, and I actually really like the bag (love anything maps-related) for you too. But if you feel that the proportions are off and you are not wearing it much, then maybe a fun replacement bag is in order.

I think I've figured out what was bugging me about the bag. I was carrying a lot of stuff today (big lunch, and a package I needed to take to UPS) so the bag was very full and thick and that combined with the short strap made it feel like I was carrying a pillow under my arm. But now that it's less full (dropped off the package, and ate my lunch) the sides pull up more like a traditional hobo, and the strap drop becomes correspondingly longer, so it's much more comfortable and the proportions are better. I think I just need to stop using it on days when I have too much to carry ... (which is ironic, because I actually switched to this bag this morning because my olive MZ Wallace wouldn't fit all the stuff and still close).

Anyway, I'm going to hang on to it.

Thanks for the nice words about the dress too. Mani, that is a very good point about seeing how it washes before I duplicate; I will definitely do that.

Suz, that was exactly my thought about duplicating. Once it gets too ratty, it will make perfect loungewear. (In fact most of my loungewear is old comfy dresses, some in better shape than others.)

Vickie, I could definitely see this going into fall with boots and jacket!

I'm happy to hear the bag might be staying a while longer, Diana, I was secretly rooting for this "map bag":-)

I like the chartreuse on you! It's a hard color to wear. I love it with the cognac. I even like this dress with the sweater. I suggest as others probably have already scrunching the sleeves b/c they're a little long otherwise I love the comfort and ease of the dress with or without the sweater.

I love the dress! If it was super difficult to find a fit you liked, then I am all for duplication. The colors are so different. I still like the bag, but if you are not wearing it I'd make room for something you love madly.

Fabulous frock, Diana. You wear chartreuse well. Do you wear it sans the belt? Yup. I vote duplicate.

If the style of bag is not working for you - I vote pass on.

Angie, yes the dress works sans belt too. That was one of my requirements actually. It's amazing how many sack dresses are either muumuus when unbelted or super short when belted. The pleating detail here provides just a teeny bit of waist structure, plus it's not an extreme trapeze shape.

Thanks for answering my question about today's teams too. I agree - now that I have thought about it some more, I realized I can do head to toe pretty just fine but I don't think I can do head to toe tough. So Team Pretty it is! Happy to be on your team, Angie. =)

Yes! It's a wonderful dress on you and deserves to be duplicated, especially if you can later wear it for loungewear. I think the subway map bag is fun, especially with these dresses. I'm glad you are keeping it.

I agree with everyone, it's absolutely fabulous on you! The colour looks so good with your skin tone, it's almost juicy:) Love the pairing with the belt and shoes too. I'm not totally loving the bag but you seem to have made peace with it.
