WIW: 9/29 Red-pink-orange, and costume change (longish)

Whew...after the fun of SSIF and meeting so many truly fab YLF celebrities (yayy, so awesome!), my week hasn't allowed much forum-ing. Hope you all don't mind what is practically a blast from the past: a late-September WIW from this Monday.

That day, I had work-related meetings on the schedule, and then a Swedish black metal show that evening. So 2 WIWs for the price of one.

Day wear was:

Angie-ensemble-ready Coldwater Creek hi-low colorblock sweater
F21 tube skirt in "rust"
gray tights
100% YLF-enabled Rae/Una boot-triplet Zindas in "steel grey"

Fabbers, thank you so much for your careful, caring, and considered thoughts on what we wear and your photos showing how it's done. Without all that, for instance, I don't know if I would have made peace with this sweater, which I bought a year ago because I was drawn to its crazy colors. But it took me a while to feel it wasn't swimmingly huge and impossible to style with the type of clothes I was used to. I just was not adjusted to the fluid, oversized thing at all. And then Angie posted the red/pink/orange ensemble, and I no longer felt lost in the woods about it or that maybe I'd made a frumpy CC decision just before getting into YLF.

Plus, I used to be pretty strict about what tones could "go" with others and wouldn't normally have put this orange skirt with the sweater, but YLF has helped shake that attitude up as well. Thank you YLF!

Finally, special thanks to Rae and Una for finding and modeling these very comfy all-day boots!

And that evening's outfit for going to the heavy metal show:

Old-me meets new-me, sort of. Nothing earthshaking. Silly poses to try to show some of the fringiness.

Last, Natalie and me at SSIF from my phone because we had so much matchy-matchy black and white on. And to anyone I may have blinded with my high-contrast top, my apologies! It was meant to be muffled by the moto hoodie, but I've always run warm, and, well... (Hey, it was an experiment. I know that high-contrast white [well, "cream" they called it] is not my best color.)

So, count me as another who was in awe of the fab YLF celebs I got to be in the same city with, Natalie being one of them! Always especially admired her style. And thanks to all for being so incredibly nice and fabulous. It was great to share all the fun with you and to see you in action!

Both outfits are lovely, love the pretty colors of the first one and edge of the second one. You and Natalie both look great in those high-contrast pieces!

Hey, boot triplet! Did you tie the laces around the top? So clever - they are long and I couldn't figure out how to get rid of them besides stuffing them down the boot shaft. You look great!

Una - thanks! Yes, that's exactly it. I looked at those extra-long laces and yep, they do make one wonder what to do with them. I did try tucking first, but then remembered that hubs does the top-tie-around thing with his ancient combat boots (his are surplus, I note; he's not a vet). These are quite military in style, so...

Both of these are great in different ways. I hear you on the color mixing ... I wouldn't have tried many of the color mixes I have a year ago.

Oooh I can totally picture you in #1, what a fabulous sweater in really great colors for you! Looks great over the pencil, and the tall combaty boots are a fun juxtaposition there. The metal outfit is fun (what band?), though the fringies read a little more boho than metal to me (and of course, to any one who questions this, that's what the boots are for ). Those gray skinnies look super on you. LOVED your outfit on Saturday, I wouldn't call the contrast blinding by any means and I did rather like the cream shade on you. Still totally want to steal those adorable houndstooth booties! You and Natalie are a fab pair, with Natalie's matching stripes and your matching houndstooth.

You look radiant in that first outfit! Wow! Just gorgeous. I love the oversized sweater on you. It looks like a two piece dress with the skirt. Very polished yet completely relaxed; my kind of outfit! And the boots are terrific, too. I love how lacing makes them adjustable.

The fringes on your second outfit are a lot of fun; they'd be great if you were dancing!

Ooohh, the first outfit looks great! Nicely styled with the gray boots.

The fringe on the second top is fun! I like the way the studs on the shoes echo the crochet holes in the sweater.

Ummlila - thanks! Yes, YLF has helped so much with nudging style boundaries! Even things that look like they should be easy can be hard if we're just not in the mindset.

Aida - thanks so much for weighing in with your discerning eye! The main band was Amon Amarth, with Sabaton before them (also Swedish but funnier and more fun, really) and Athens, OH band Skeletonwitch opening. I agree the fringe top isn't really "metal"--you're right that it isn't what I was going for. Most of the outfit was already formula enough that I wanted to do something different on top but that would still go. I'm not much for boho these days, but since the top is black, I see it as less "hippie" than some other colors would be. I really don't do hippie. And thanks for the thoughts on my SSIF shop-day outfit--especially coming from a check-mixing master (who it was so fab to meet and see in action).

Angie - thanks for the nod. Interesting point about the specs...they do look darker in pics than real life, I think...they're the brown ombre ones I wore on SSIF Friday (the blue/gray version occurred on Saturday and Sunday).

Suz - thanks! Another great thing about outfit #1 was its high comfort factor with all the knits! So interesting that you mentioned the dress thing, because (at least) 2 people that day thought it was exactly that. Happy that throwing in a fourth color seemed to work that well!

AJ - thank you! I loved meeting you and your sis! I hope we get to meet up again. PS, I followed up on the snazzy top you wore to Oysterfest and will soon be trying on the blue version. Fashion tips from fabulous Fabbers are the best.

Diane - thanks so much! You know, I hadn't really thought about the vibe(s) of the footwear so much since I've mostly steered away from "feminine" footwear styles over the years. Can you imagine me in court shoes? I can't either! It was so delightful to meet you, Diane!

Well I continue to love those boots on you, and I think the colors of the sweater and skirt pair wonderfully together in the first picture, and could work with various footwear. I also really love the stud toe booties with the dark but feminine top in the second outfit and the jeans are a great fit.
