Today's outfit took me on a couple of work-related stops, then a quick change of footwear, and I was off to help my DD navigate the U bookstore and pick up her first year course materials!

Taking photos is again proving valuable. I haven't worn a belt with pants or jeans in years - but now, fearing I'll get a YLF fashion ticket if I don't, I did a cognac bag/belt combo. These jeans are a little big , and I had the belt a little too tight for the pants, and I ended up with the dreaded Grampa effect. Which of course I would not have noticed if I wasn't posing for a picture.

I do love the black/white/cognac look though , and am definitely keeping this in rotation.

The two pair of shoes are no-brainers and I was happy to find them. I've been eyeing the Vince leather slip-on sneaks for 6 months at a local boutique, but at $225 ish, I felt that that was a lot for something I wasn't yet sure of. This Michael Kors version is super-soft, cushiony and has the right narrow fit (and was half the price) . The white loafers are an Angie-inspired pick. After seeing them with her dress earlier today, it gave me an idea for some upcoming work dressing . Brown's Couture loafers are so wonderful - soft leather with a rubber sole and stacked heel. And - super on-sale too! These two pair will be part of my first capsule - trade show workwear.

Black, white and cognac colour combination is one of my favourites too. You have done well with matching the belt and bag here.
The shoes look awesome and I am surprised to read that these will form the basis of your capsule. This is a new concept to me and I am now really looking forward to see your capsule.

I prefer a fairly urban , modern look, and have never been drawn to a conservative business look. I work in a more creative industry and am determined to only buy what I like and make it look professional with good quality clothing and accessories. The environment in publishing and giftware sales is professional, but not formal. The MK sneakers are not likely part of that in terms of trade show wear, but will certainly be a to-and-from and on-the-plane item. I certainly need to include a more conventional wedge or cage heel bootie.

Looks great Lisa! Both footwear options look good to me, but I do prefer the cage sandals here to add dressiness to the more casual clothing component. Re the jeans, if they are a bit big I'd try letting them sit a little lower on your hips and have the belt be a notch or two larger for a more nonchalant cool vibe. Love this color combo on you! Crisp and graphic, yet still a touch soft.

Both shoes read on the more casual end to me, so to keep things professional I think mixing in more dressy will be just the ticket. You can certainly sport those sneakers in a creative-business way. Looking forward to seeing how your capsule comes along.

Thanks again Aida. You're right about the belt and jeans situation - after viewing the photos, I kept yanking them down lower. Just call me Gramma Lisa. They are a weird fit period though, and I'm not going to buy this particular fit from BR again.

it's OK Mona, I figured it was a typo:) But you had me thinking after I read your comment- I went completely against what I said I would do for this work capsule, and bought two pair of shoes that were not what I set out to buy. So typical . The white loafers are easy to dress up, but the Kors sneakers are really not part of it. Just so excited to find them today I had to show them off:) Back to the drawing board .

You will get lots of wear from your new shoes...both pairs would be perfect for travelling, city walking, flights etc
I love the combo with both pairs of shoes, the Michael Kors sneakers will be wonderful with a jacket as it moves into cooler weather.
Jeans fit with belts is tricky huh - I see these as looking fine but it is frustrating to have to consistently adjusting them.

You look adorable, but I cannot be objective. This is a totally "me" outfit, and I think the photo angle is more to blame for any "grandpa" effect than the actual jeans...

Are these the amazing cream BR skinnies from last winter? Those were a lemming item. I have a pair and love them but I only wear in winter because the fabrication feels so cozy to me.

I bought them earlier this Spring , Suz. Not sure how long they've been in their line. . As comfy as they are, they drive me nuts with how baggy they get so quickly. They are supposed to be a skinny fit , but really, they are more like straight-cuts. I cuff them because they are anything but skinny at the ankle. I am the single WORST shopper in that I am always in a hurry, don't like trying on in stores, and am impatient. I think it fits , tear the tags off, then realize a few hours later that I don't like what I'm wearing. Honestly, I am exhibit a for ADHD in shopping and fitting. I have a fair bit of difference between my hips and waist and things tend to creep up on me (belts included) and bunch up . The crotch (I hate that word, sorry) is super bunchy in these pants too. Oh well, lesson learned.

These outfits and shoes are smashing (and great haircut too :)). Agree that the caged sandals are slightly favored with this outfit.

Great looks. I also prefer the outfit with the caged sandal but those casual shoes are really nice. I am tempted to try a pair but always think they will feel heavy. Silly.
