WIW 8/21: Navy and neutrals

Last day of work today before the big move to the new house on Sunday! I'm getting a little panicky about being ready, and I'm wondering why I thought it would be a good idea to take up residence at a construction site, but I'm sure it will all work out. In the meantime, here's an outfit of old faves.

Navy linen skirt: J Crew
Embellished tee: Target
Striped blazer: AT Loft
Navy and white pumps: Seychelles
White satchel: Banana Republic

And speaking of the construction site, the big news yesterday is that the lawn is gone! The city is paying me $2 per square foot to take out the front and back grass and replace it with drought-tolerant landscaping. Big fun!!

Good luck with the move. Never a fun process. That's interesting about the city paying you to lose the lawn. It really is the environmentally friendly thing to do isn't it? Money in the pocket

Jackiec, the pile of boxes is getting bigger and bigger! LOL Yes, I'm excited about the low-water, low-maintenance landscape. We did a landscape project at The Former Marital Residence some years ago, and I realized after we did it that if I had it to do over again I'd do it drought-tolerant instead of thirsty. And lo and behold, now I do have it to do over again!

Angie, you are so kind! The skirt is from last year. It's really been a workhorse! I am moving now because I just can't pay both rent and the mortgage. I paid rent in August, the mortgage starts Sept 1, so this way there are no double payments. I had originally planned to stay in the apartment all through the renovation, but that was before the project ended up being 150% over my original budget!

Quietgirl, great idea about adding cranberry to the neutral tee for fall!

I love the silhouette of the whole outfit, and you look so calm, cool, and collected despite your big event!

I'm so envious of your yard coup! We have xeriscape in the back, but our front yard is a mess. My husband has tried everything, and the lawn is still awful. You'll have to post pictures!

Such a cute outfit and I like the idea of pairing cranberry with it. You'll make it living in a renovation; just plan more time at the gym and out to dinner with friends.

You should be in an 40s style movie and your nickname should be Legs. The house next to ours has been under renovation for months, I can't believe how quickly your new home is coming along!

Blast. Those double payment months are a mare. You are right to not pay rent and mortgage. I'm sure you'll make the camping site work. Do you have a safe haven of a room and bathroom?

Yes, I will have the guest room and guest bath. Then when the master bedroom and bathroom are done I will move in there and we will re-do the guest rooms! And we're not touching the kitchen (until Phase II, anyway -- maybe 2016?) so I will have a fully functioning kitchen the whole time. So that will be a big help!

I know what you mean by taking up residence at a construction site, as we did it earlier in our house, too. No fun, but think a working kitchen and a safe room (with a bathroom) is key. BTW, love your outfit Mary!

I just did the yard in my house and we have only about 600 square feet of grass in the front. None at all in the back but I do have trees and shrubs. Low maintenance is the way to go. I am looking forward to seeing what you do with the front yard. Nice bonus for the government to pay you to do it too.

That's awesome about your yard. I've seen drought-tolerant landscapes which, to my eye, are very beautiful and interesting in an understated way.
Best of luck with the move, and if it gets stressful, just remind yourself of the money you'll have for shopping because you're not making double home payments.
