WIW 8/2: Navy, leopard and stripes

It's hot here and my navy skirt from J Crew is just the thing! It's definitely a great piece for the summer -- thanks, Jenava, for turning me on to it! The Target tee is on its third year and still going strong -- you can never know where your wardrobe workhorses will come from, I guess!

It certainly is!! You look very chic and elegant! You've combined the different elements of this polished look with great flair, and just the right dose of fun to make it bang up-to-date! For what it's worth, I think the ability to mix new/old, designer/chainstore successfully is the hallmark of a woman who REALLY understands what style is all about, and is comfortable in her own skin. (Can I say that in English? 'bien dans sa peau'?). Whatever, it's a resounding succes, Mary! Well done, you!!!

The pattern mixing is awesome. How do you do it? Just trial and error or do you have an innate sense of what works? I've probably asked this before but it just baffles me. I can see what works on someone else but I don't think I could come up with these combos.

Tina, honestly at this point I barely even consider this "pattern mixing." In my world, stripes and leopard are both essentially neutrals so it's a no-brainer to put them together. Plus they are on my list of "things that look great together," which also includes "polka dots and stripes" and "polka dots and leopard." One thing that is helpful when you are new is to just look at lots of photos. Try doing a Google Image search for something like "pattern mixing outfits" and see what you see! (That's how I found "dots and leopard," which is, like, my favorite thing ever!)

The other ladies are right - your pattern mixing looks so effortlessly fab.

And I'm sure I have a few Target items that have become workhorses, too. I guess that is why Angie has us turning over all those retail stones.

One of my all time favorites. I have never attempted navy (and STRIPES) with animal print. Yikes, you're a genius. Great mix of highs and lows. Looks elegant!
