WIW 6/26-6/28: Two versions and a funeral

1/2. Wednesday night I had my bi-weekly ladies' dinner and I was happy with this casual oversized sweater and yellow skinnies. In fact I liked the combination so much I swapped out the skinnies for a yellow skirt and wore the same outfit to work on Thursday! Not sure the yellow shoes were the best choice but navy pumps just seemed to obvious.

Navy/ivory sweater: Velvet
Yellow skinnies: Else
Wedge sandals: Charles by Charles David
White satchel: Banana Republic
Yellow pumps: Seychelles
SIlver whistle pendant: Can't remember but it was one of Angie's picks from a while back

3/4. Today I worked a half day and then went to the funeral of my aunt Ellen. It was an outdoor service in triple-digit temps, so I lost the jacket and added a straw hat to keep off the sun. It was a lovely service -- she was a remarkable woman who was married for 63 years and whose two sons are both also still married to their first wives. The service was attended by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including a month-old great-grandson. I hadn't seen many of them for 10 years and it was a nice, if sad, reunion. And of course it was nice to feel appropriately dressed.

I absolutely adore that slouchy striped sweater with both the yellow pants and the skirt. Great combo!

And you look very sharp while being respectful and appropriate for the funeral. I'm sorry for your loss. She sounds like a lovely woman.

Thanks, ladies! In light of my recent separation and impending divorce, I have been thinking that one of the most important, if not the most important, choices one makes in life is the choice of a mate. And Aunt Ellen and Uncle Harold just NAILED IT at ages 17 and 18! And somehow they taught their sons the secret, too. No divorces at all in that branch of the family, and they are all close and loving. I'm super envious.

She never even graduated from high school, but man! She had one super-successful life!

Great way to remix the sweater and you look very put together and appropriate for a funeral. Sad, but the "reunions" that happen are a positiive.

Beautiful outfits, Mary, and completely appropriate to the occasions. So sorry about your aunt, but you did her proud with your ensemble. Of course I am a sucker for that jacket and just sigh every time I see it. But even without the jacket, the outfit is terrific! And I love the yellow and navy outfits, too.

A long and successful marriage is most certainly something to celebrate and the choice of a mate is hugely important. I do think luck plays a small role -- both in terms of finding and recognizing the right person, and then learning (together) the communication skills that allow a marriage to flourish for so long. Some are naturally gifted with these skills. But more of us must learn them, bit by bit.

Love the yellow/white/black! The work version is my favorite -- something in the proportions is so perfect, and you have great legs! I think the pattern mixing with jacket/shirt in #2 adds energy to a funeral appropriate look.

Sorry to hear about your Aunt. It's good to celebrate a life well lived! You may not be able to emulate her long married life, but I'm sure there are traits that you already share with her, and others that you may have been encouraged to continue to develop. When my Great-Aunt Lucille died, I make a conscious decision to work on contentment and patience --- her strong suits, NOT mine. I recognized that she was far happier than most, my Grandmother, for instance, because she knew how to enjoy what she had in the moment.

Will we be seeing heat-busting looks this week? I hear it's hot out west. We're staying cool in Chicago, for once!

Your office deserved to see that one as well as the gals. Your funeral choice was perfection, but outdoors? in this heat? Having the hat must have been a boon. I agree there's a lot of wisdom and skill in having a successful marriage. But sometimes people change. And sometimes people aren't who you thought they were. So in those senses and more I agree with Suz that luck plays a part.
