WIW 4/7: Olive, black, and navy ETA Take Two

I saw this photo online and loved the color combination and the crazy accessories, and I realized I had the right colored pieces, if not quite the right shapes. The shapes don't work at all with the jacket open (photo 2) but I think it kinda works with the jacket buttoned.

Navy skirt: J Crew
Black tee: old from my closet
Olive blazer: Theory
Black and white oxfords: Doc Marten
White satchel: Banana Republic

What do you think? Is this just too crazy for work or does it hang together?

ETA: It hit me mid-morning that I should have worn my navy ankle pants from Banana Republic instead of the skirt. Much better, I think. What do you all think?

Yes the jacket closed works much better with the A-line of the skirt. I love the addition of the white with the darks...

Mary, following you on YLF is so enlightening! I feel as though you are in a laboratory cooking up all kinds of sartorial formulations for us to assess. Some days the formulation result is more predictable, some days surprising, and some days we have an EXPLOSION in the laboratory, during which we shake our heads and murmur, "Who knew . . .?" Today you cooked up a surprise -- a very interesting concoction and I like it, especially with the black and white shoes!

I always think of you as MaryK with the "magical closet", because you always seem to have just the right piece to re-create an outfit from inspiration photos. And I love it:-)

I agree that the proportions are a little off with the blazer open, but buttoned-up it's great. The white accents make it work to my eye.

I really wish I had a navy pencil skirt so I could wear the blazer open, because that would be much better, but one works with what one has. And I hope you will all forgive me for not showing a sliver of belly at the office! LOL

ETA: I just realized that I totally blew it -- should have used my navy ankle pants instead of the a-line skirt! Curses!!!

Ooh yes, I like it with your pants best. The saddle shoes, on both you and the model are a great example of dorky cute/cool in my book. Very hip to be square.

I like the skirt option with the blazer done up. I like the pants but the non-chunky shoe gal in me wants something a bit more refined with the pants. Your ankles look super tiny this way to me (is a good thing maybe I dunno?). I do love the light belt mimicking the skin sliver ^^

I feel like something is off here... It may be the proportions of the jacket in length or width. Or it could be me. I am just not feeling the groove though. I want to feel the groove!

How fun, I recently apired navy and olive green together (haven't posted the WIW yet) and I really liked it! The trouser version is my favorite because the jacket is loose and the skirt is loose in #1, too many loose things at one time for me.

I much prefer it with the pants. There's something about the length of the jacket or the skirt, or perhaps the width of the skirt that doesn't work to my eye.
