WIW 4/23: Variation on a theme

This top has three colors I can wear - hot pink, black and orange... I wore a variation of this before and really liked it. This time I swapped out the pink skirt for black, and the black cropped jacket for pink. Does it work this way?

Also, the quilted booties are home!

Una -- I like them both but think I prefer the one with pink skirt and black jacket (shown in your second post) just a little better. I like the book ending effect with the jacket and stockings/booties. Just curious, what is the fabric of the skirt? Jacket? The striped top looks like a knit.

AJ, thanks for the visuals! Add to that mix that I also have an ORANGE skirt! I can see the difference in the side by side. Can also make it more suit-like by doing black with black or pink with pink, though they are slightly different shades.

The jacket is lace.

Denise, the skirt is the Halogen skirt, the top is a sheer chiffon front and knit back (so needs a cami underneath). I'm wearing my black glasses to help bookend but didn't show them in the picture as they reflect the flash.

I think it works, but that your previous version works better. My theory:

Original outfit has a low contrast between skirt and top, creating a long leg line. You then have a high contrast between the top and jacket, creating a defined, high waist line that also keeps you looking leggy.

Today's outfit kind of does the opposite: high contrast between skirt and top shortens bottom half, while low contrast between top and jacket leaves the waist much less defined.

I liked the original best. The lace jacket is not the right pink, too harsh with the softer pink of the skirt. An orange skirt could rock, but with the black topper!

AJ is brilliant! I really like the black/black combo she put together. I also prefer your original version, just because the top blends a bit better into the skirt. It goes without saying that you are brilliant as well for putting it together in the first place.

Una, -km kind of with AJ on this one, although with your legs you can pulloff both! What about hot pink tights with the black shoes, black skirt and jacket? I think you're one of the few who could pull that off.

I'm joining the majority in liking the first renditoon most; I think you'd need to do all matte black on the bottom to make the top work. But then, I love me some black.

I like the original better as well! For me, it's the fact that your pink skirt matches better with the shirt than your pink blazer does (though I think the pink blazer is fab by itself and is great on you).

i am digging the original version and the black skirt/black jacket look in the AJ paperdolls. The orange skirt sounds pretty fun too! The shirt is just great on you and so much fun with the bright colors. I agree the pink skirt looks great because it is a better "match" for the pink of the shirt than the pink of the jacket. Great short over long action working!
