WIW 4/20: Vintage copycat

I saw this navy dotted dress and leopard pumps at Jessica Quirk's site months ago, so you can imagine how thrilled I was to find a beautiful navy polka-dot dress at the vintage store this week! I replaced the self belt with a fantastic belt from the same store, and used the original belt to make a pussy-bow!

Navy polka dot dress: vintage (size label says "14 petite", BTW!)
Leopard pumps: Jessica simpson
Black belt with bakelite buckle: vintage
Tan "ostrich" tote: Target

You are so creative! Using the belt as a pussybow detail gives a whole different look to this dress and makes it so much more versatile.

Wow! This is a great lesson in making vintage work, updating with a different belt and leopard heels. You look amazing and the dress fits perfectly. The touch of leopard keeps it in Business Bombshell territory.

No, it's a dacron (polyester)/rayon blend! LOL But it has a nice drape and feels almost like silk.

Don't know when it was made, Denise, but I've been doing a little research and found these tips for dating vintage clothing. This dress has a fabric content tag but no care instructions, which seems to put it between 1960 (introduction of mandatory fabric content labels) and 1971 (introduction of mandatory care labels). And this site says sizes in the 1950s-60s were about 6 sizes larger than current sizes, which is about right -- these days I would probably wear an 8P in a close-fitting dress like this one because of my bust and shoulders.

And BTW, you are no where near a 14P or an 8P!!! I could barely get one leg in that skirt you sent me, lol! You are YLF's little petite flower for sure. Okay, well maybe an 8P *because of your bust*, ahem. Must be nice!

What a great find, this dress fits you beautifully! I remember that dress of Jessica's too, I tried the ON one that looked similar and was so bummed that it didn't work for me. Clever you on using the belt as a bow, I've done that with thin silk scarves but never even considered using a self-fabric-belt. Can I also say how much I love polka dots with leopard? ^^
