WIW 4/17: Denim Vest, Tee & Track Pants with a proportion question

I love today's ensemble post as it gives me a lot of ideas on how to wear my denim vests. I went with the track pants as bottoms today, but I chose slightly dressier versions of all the components. The tee is actually a mixed media top with silk and real perforated leather inserts by Aiko ( attached the photo of the cool back view). I have been seeing less mixed media items in the stores these days and wondering if their popularity is going down. The track pants are wool blend (Gap) and I rolled them to show off the ankle straps of the suede mini wedges with almond toes (Madewell). I finished the outfit with studded grey tote (Rebecca Minkoff), two tone watch and grey sunnies.

The version I am actually wearing is the one in #2, with longer denim vest and semi-tucked top. However, I have experimented with other options - shorter vest and untucked top, and am very curious to know which of these proportions you think work.

I like the version your wearing today (2) best, Tanya! The longer vest looks great...i think the proportions in 5 look good to my eye with the partial tuck...great outfit and super cute top!

Agreeing that #2 is best. I think the longer vest looks better over the light top. It creates a longer line. My second preference is 5 because of the semi-tuck--otherwise the vest looks a wee bit too cropped to my eye. Just my 2 cents. Love your outfit today, btw. Super sporty and chic!

I think what you've worn is the best option. I find the more cropped vest throws the proportions off and makes your torso look longer. I always look forward to your version of the Friday ensemble

Thank you very much for your input, Carole, Kelly and Jackie. Glad we all agree that #2 is the best proportion-wise. I think I will leave the cropped vest for skirts and dresses as originally planned when I bought it.

I like both versions with the longer vest....it is a great casual look. Not keen on the cropped vest here, agree it would worn on a dress or shorter skirt very well.

They all look pretty good to me Tanya! And not to throw a wrench into the consensus - but I like #4 the best! - and I'm trying to figure out why. I think that part of it has to do with it looks more streamlined around your waist and torso. In #2 (IMHO) there is too much going on around your waist/torso area - you've got the bottom of the vest, the gathered tie of the pants, as well as the semi-tuck. My eye immediately goes to that area and I'm distracted by all of that "busyness" right there front and center. I'll be watching this thread to see what the other fabbers think - because I know that some (many!) times I'm completely off base!

Another killer rendition of the Friday ensemble, Tanya. I like #2 best of all. The longer vest works well with your long torso.

The version your wearing (#2, long vest with semi-tuck) looks best to me. I think the shorter vest would be good with a rounded or handkerchief hem top though. Great take on the ensemble!

No. 2 seems balanced. I usually have sort of a hmmph for track pants but this is proving me wrong. Which is annoying

I always look forward to your ensemble interpretations . I like 2 best and to my eye the cropped vest makes your torso look long and throughs the proportions off.
