WIW 4/11-12: Natalie's style rubric

I've loved reading about Shannon's style rubric and seeing Rae & Mo's interpretation too! I've been mulling it over and here's my style rubric. It's a work in progress so please make suggestions--I can change it!

Primary rubric
1. Ladylike--this is such a given in all my outfits that I wonder if it's even necessary?
2. Structure--fitted, waist definition
3. Pattern (I noticed that pretty much all of my outfits include a print of some kind, and often several!)
4. Luxe--polished, textured
5. Flair--at least one statement piece per outfit, classic piece with a twist, or secret or whimsical detail (this is my favorite part of the rubric!)

Secondary rubric (not all outfits will have all of these but usually will have at least one or two)
1. Color
2. Retro-inspired
3. Matchy matchy
4. ALGO
5. UWP--tough elements mixed with ladylike

Here are the last two days of outfits, and some more outfits that I feel represent my rubric as well. Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks! Gotta run!

Oh, PS, I just got a purse on eBay (with rebate checks and hubby's approval) and am soon going to be a bag twin with another YLF'er! I'll let you guess who!

Love them all Natalie! I think you are in full control of your style and know exactly what works for you. Great job!

I love the fifth point of your rubric too! I say keep the 'ladylike' --- wasn't that where you were struggling in pants week?

ETA: Terrific pattern mixing, right up to the necklace, in #5. Love the top peeking out under your jacket in #1 too.

Yay, the rubric fever is catching!

I like your primary rubric, Natalie - I think the proof will be to road test it. Maybe do a "remix week" where you use your rubric to put together new outfits? This would demonstrate whether or not the list is helpful.

As for the secondary rubric, my personal feeling is that it would make things too complicated for me - my own goal was to have a short checklist to make sure I didn't "forget part of my style" in the morning. You might feel fine about a long list. Also, since the secondary items are sort of naturally your taste, I don't think you'd need a list to remember to apply them (if that makes sense).

Another rubric lover!

Like Rae, I think your primary rubric looks good. The proof is in the pudding and you will see as you try it out if it needs tweaking or not. Like Rae, I also found that the simpler my rubric was, the more sense and less complicated it seemed to me. You may find that also trying to include elements of your secondary rubric with your primary rubric, too cumbersome. The reason I came up with my rubric was to hopefully not only identify what makes me feel good in an outfit, but to also simplify my purchasing habits and make it easy to get dressed in the morning. Just some thoughts...

Looking at all the WIW recaps, I see a lot of consistency between your primary rubric and your actual outfits. Seems like the Flair captures all the secondary rubric elements pretty well - maybe those are how you define Flair?

To me, something about Color seems important: my favorite photos involve big swaths of red you're wearing! Utterly charming on you.

Natalie, I love your rubric and your outfits! You always look lovely and interesting and never overdone. Great WIWs, I always find them inspiring. #13 and #23 are my faves!

I've gone back and looked at your outfits again Natalie and agree that "colour" and "flair" are right up there in your primary rubric elements. And I have to say that the outfit in pic #22 is now my FAVOURITE outfit of yours...absolutely STUNNING!

I think these are great outfits and you look great in all of them. My favorites are 16, 19, and 22. I admire your ability to step back and analyze your style. I have a hard time with these sorts of exercises. The only one I've been able to do is the "not" one. I can't tell you what I am, but I can tell you what I'm not.

Oh my gosh, I totally fell in love with 7, 16, and 18. I love the others, too, but I hadn't seen 7 and 16 before. Gorgeous!!

As usual, Rae offers a brilliant suggestions. Put the rubric into play and see if you feel fab every day. If not, tweak the rubric! I think you've identified what you love and what makes you feel great very well.

This rubric thing has me curious. I like how Nathalie expressed her's and her style is well-demonstrated by her photos.
I did a search for rubric posts but didn't find the "original" (?) -- how does one play along?
