WIW 3/25-27: dress-up days

Not dress up, so much as ... we had clients in the office this week, which means dressing more conservatively than usual.

I don't want to say too much because I'm really curious what you all think. Likes? Dislikes? General thoughts? I'll say more in a bit about how I felt in each.

Tuesday (pics 1-3):
Tweedy blazer: AT
Skirt: BR
Top: Target
Shoes: Cole Haan

Wednesday (pics 4-5):
Sweater: Target
Skirt: hand-me-down
Scarf: can't recall
Shoes: Aerosoles

Thursday (pics 6-8):
Top: small boutique
Pants: BR
Blazer: H&M
Shoes: Clarks

I think #1 to #5 are great & YLF in them. Not sure what it is about # 6 - 8 - I like the top/tunic but don't think it's working as well (for me) with the pants & jacket. Maybe it's the higher contrast or the proportions - not sure.

To me these all look simply smashing on you and work appropriate, the harmonious neutrals, proportions and mix of straight and fluid lines (I prefer the unbuttoned jacket in the last outfit) is really great.

But are you missing color?? I'm not sure if you feel like you in there?? Speak to to us adorkable, are you ok!?

That first jacket is great on you and I love the whole outfit - one of my favorites of yours. The echoing of the metallic on the shoes and the jacket and the subtle color variations are really interesting. Love the shoes in the second outfit - watch out, I may steal them from you! On the third outfit, I like it with the jacket unbuttoned, but not so much unbuttoned or without the jacket - the proportions look off somehow, not sure why.

1 - 5 are awesome. Love 2 especially, with open jacket. Not sure abut the blazer over the tunic. I think you need something more cropped over.

Hmmmm ... I tried and tried to find some problem with your outfits. I really did. But I love them all! I love the way the tunic and jacket work over the skinny cropped pants. Nice proportions I think. Great set of outfits imo.

I actually like #6 a lot. Try scrunching the sleeves I say! The rest are looking good too!

You look lovely and I like them, particularly #4-5. But I feel like there is something missing.....you! For example, your spotted shoes seemed like quintessentially you. But here I can't see you!

I am really enjoying 6-8, 1-5 seem basic in my opnion which is not a bad thing. I really like how the jacket in pic 1 fits on you.

Great outfits. I'm especially liking 6-8. I really like the casual yet polished look of the blazer worn over the patterned, fluid, longer top with the cropped, slim-fit pants. Looks professional but casual.

I love #1-5! I really like the second picture with the blazer left open. Great work appropriate looks. I like the idea of #6-8, but I feel like something is off. How did you feel in them?

1-5 are awesome. I like the idea of 6-8 but I think the tunic needs tweaking.I like it best as 6, but the pointed hem fights with the curved hem of the jacket.

You look great in all of these. However the first outfit, while being very professional has the least ... personality? The other two look much more like you, but still professional and appropriate.

I like all of these and only see small tweaks if you wanted to freshen up these outfits. #1, I'd add a necklace or dangle earrings and/or a bracelet. #4, I like the scarf here, but would love to see some color, maybe orange skirt? #6, I like this outfit with the blazer open best, again I'm stuck on color, maybe green shoes? (I may be stuck on color because it's spring and after the winter in my area, I want to get far, far away from neutrals.)

I really like the proportions is #1. How do you feel about adding pointy toe flats to your wardrobe?

I like #6 a lot too, although personally I would like to see the pants a little shorter. (I AM Queen Pedantic About Pant Lengths). That top and jacket layer is fabulous. xo

Thanks so much, everyone, for all your comments and concerns. Now that the clients have left town, it's back to my preferred slightly silly version of business casual!

Thanks, caro. Funnily enough, the last outfit was by far my favorite - although DP confirms it looked better live than in these pictures.

rabbit: I liked these outfits, but you're right - I missed color a lot. I usually wear the first jacket (1-2) with a bright green or teal shirt that draws out the color in it for exactly that reason! I'd love to find a slightly more colorful way to wear the last outfit; I wish my cobalt blazer fit as slimly as the black one!

Una: Seems like the tunic and blazer is polarizing. I liked it personally, but I didn't try on all my toppers with it - and maybe I should have!

Neel: Thanks! The only thing I didn't love was the almost-total absence of non-neutrals, but I actually do like these outfits a fair bit.

MuseumGal: Totally, totally agreed. I liked the first one the least as well: the blazer at least has some color, but there wasn't much interest for me beyond that. The scarf for the second outfit felt like some movement, and I enjoy the shape of the tunic in the last outfit even if it's a bit tricky to style.

Lisa: I'm stuck on color myself! This was kind of a neutral mini-challenge. I'd probably rewear the second outfit with my orange skirt (or maybe even my bright yellow one?), and I'd like to try the last outfit with a colored topper or at the very least colored shoes. (Maybe the amazing flowered shoes, actually!)

Angie: Oooh, thanks! I'm so excited that my favorite outfit from this week gets your seal of approval. I have too many shoes, but I am definitely going to consider pointy flats. I have almond toes... You are so right about the pants - shame on me for not listening the first time around. (I just haven't had time. I'm trying to shrink them a little bit first, but it's likely that they will make a trip to the tailor.)
